Hi, I need some help with a truck that my brother has. I will be going over tomorrow to check things out for myself and just want some options on what you may think. First the truck is a 1999 blazer(small s10 blazer) with a V-6 (4.3L, I think. I know its a V-6)50,000 miles. The problem with the truck is antifreeze, he is losing antifreeze somewhere. He had the cooling system pressure checked to see if there were any possible leaks, it held 16lbs pressure for an hour(with the truck off). He checked the oil when he got home and noticed the oil level increased on the dip stick. He then sucked a small about of oil out of the dipstick hole but he didn't find any coolant in it. He said the oil looked like new oil.
so what is your exiperience with these trucks? intake manifold or head gasket? warped head?
Thank you for your time and any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you

Mike,
All of the Vortec engines seem to have a problem with the intake gaskets. That is probably what you will find. Make certain to carefully follow the factory procedure for torquing the intake bolts. Once you see the gasket, you will see why. Also, don't skimp on the gasket. GM or Fel-Pro ... no "noname" brands.
Hope this helps,

Don't know if this is the same but I had a 90' S-15 GMC Jimmy (same as S-10 chevy) with the 4.3 V-6 that would lose coolant slowly also. It turns out the water pump was leaking out one of the weep holes when it cooled down and sat over night but not when it was hot. Replaced the pump and did not lose any more coolant. - John
