OK, my 69 needs floors and atleast 1 floor pan brace. I am going to go ahead and put them both in. Everyone seems to stress not taking out both floor pans at once. What I want to know is how do you put in full floor pan braces without both sides of the floors out. Leaving the hump in tact of course. There is probably a simple answer, but I'm confused. Help

Yenko if you do a search under my name you will find many posts on floor replacemnt.

In order to replace the braces you must lift the car off the body just high enough to remove the part of the barace that welds to the inner rocker. I just used 4x4 placed across the frame in three spots, one right under the cowl, in the middle and the last right before the rear wheel.

Now remove one brace at a time. Remove it by drilling out the spot welds dont just cut it out along with the floor that attaches to it. Now take and algin your new brace up to the old floor. More then likey you will need to make a slight bend or tweak in the brace to get the proper fit, you want a tight snug fit. Once you have the fit you like, use sheet metal screws to hold it place. dOnt weld it in until you have the new floor in place and fitted, so use screws to hold the brace. Now you can remove the other brace in the same manner.

Once you have both braces fitted and screwed, you can start on the floors. Do only one half at a time other wise you will spend more time fitting and trying to align the floors. Cut out only one half of the floor, test fit the new half, continue to trim til desired fit. Fit the new floor half to the braces and old remaining floor. Get the floor to fit snug agaist the braces, try not to readjust the braces to get the fit since they are were they needed to be, the purpose of fitting them to the old floor.

Now once you have the new floor half fitted to your liking screw it down to the braces and surrounding areas to hold its position. Now remove the remaining floor and fit it to the braces and new floor half. Once you have the fit you can start to weld things up.

I bought my floors from the paddock which had the tranny hump included, no need to leave the hump intact on your car. This is a general desrciption but should get you pointed in the right way. Also I have pics on the link below. Not a step by step but some pics. Also those pics are not the method I talked about, those are from a diff way I tried and didnt get the results Ive had doing them this method, but you should get an idea...Eric
