: Torque Specs for Alum Intake?

When I get my intake repaired and go to putting the car back together again, what is/are the correct Torque Specs for an alum intake manifold off of a '69 396? My book shows the order of the torquing but only the cast iron specs :(

Thanks,

Mike,

All my books show 30 ft lbs, in proper sequence and in 10 lb increments. Also be sure to use the proper hardened steel washers required for aluminium intake manifolds. Without these washers the bolts will dig into the manifold. After the intake is seated for some time, maybe an hour or so, go back and re-torque to 30 ft lbs one more time.

This is for factory aluminium Chev BB intakes.
If you are using an aftermarket aluminum intake refer to the mfg torque specs.

Yup, torque goes with fastener size, not casting material. So it's the same as cast iron.... just a little more carefully.

I go 25 ft lbs with aluminum and 35 with iron. You can snap an ear off an aluminum manifold a lot easier than an iron one. Use good permatorque gaskets and RTV for the end seals and you will be good to go.
