Very nice job Jeff! It took my son and I about 7 years to finish our '65 Malibu. Finally got it on the road last December.

I've noticed that a lot of guys take the turn signal/parking lights out of the front of their '65s...is this really common?

It must be a great feeling. I had posted this question in the "bodywork" forum but I didn't get any answers. How much can you expect to pay for a good (albeit not show quality) paintjob for a 65?

Also...I'm looking into putting a set of shortie headers in my '65...how did the dynomax headers fit? Did you have trouble getting around the steering column? Also...how do the tuck up under the car?

Looking at you Cool Ride, one Question came to mind. I see you have an Alun. cross flow rad and fan shroud.. who's is it ? and did you have to MAKE it fit the rad support ?

robando, not to chime in on his post but i also put on dynomax shorties. The headers end angeling down about where the firewall and floor meet. Fit is not bad, steering column fit is great, i had to ding my on I believe #3 for clearence of the AFR head all might no be like that but the head flange stuck out enough to make header not fit quite right....

How did yours fit jeff??

Thanks for all of the positive comments, makes all of the hard work worth it!

- Turn signals/parking lights (?), Stock type and location. Appear to be just like your car.
- Paint, good question. I suppose it depends on the initial condition and how good you want it.
- Headers, The Dynomax's had plenty of room around the steering shaft, although my car has power steering I think that makes a difference. I did have clearance issues with the driver's side lower control arm bracket (had to dimple the collector/tube connection to get 1/8" + clearance)and I had to grind the passenger side upper control arm flange quite a bit. I also tried a set of Hedmans which fit the drive side great but would of had more upper control arm interference on the passenger side so I comprimised with the Dynomax's. My car is pretty low which pushed the control arms back quite aways to get the camber right.

Radiator is a Racepro universal fit 19 x 26 (same as Summits Universal fit radiator I believe) and the shroud is a 66-67 BBC repro from Ground Up. I had to fab the mounts for the shroud and to the core support and had them welded to the radiator. I also cut off the lower hose connection and had it rewelded to come straight out of the radiator. For some reason most of the universal fit rads have the lower hose connection angled towards the water pump, probably would have worked alright I just didn't like the look of it.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the thorough reply man. Do you have a set of shorties on your car or are they regular headers?
