I have a bone to pick with the suppliers of Chevelle parts. Have these people never heard of instructions?!?! I mean if I buy a part for my A4 it always comes with instructions...but these guys...no. It's as if they expect that if you ordered the part you know exactly how to put it in. It frustrates me. So now I have a new turn signal switch and cancel cam that I have to make work with my LeCarre steering wheel and I don't know exactly how that's gonna work out. I guess it's gonna have to be trial and error. Woo...I feel better now...thanks for listening. tongue.gif

Ok...I knew something like that was coming...and I deserve it. Now, what do you guys think the best repair/service manual for a '65 Chevelle is?

I have the factory assembly manual...it's good but lacking the level of detail I would like. The hand drawn stuff is really difficult to follow sometimes. Is the repair manual any better?

Also, the assembly manual tells you how the major components go together but won't show you how the components themselves are put together.

For a '65 the following manuals are available and are an invaluable source of data and photos:

-1964 Chevelle Shop Manual (there is no '65 main shop manual, the 64 manual was intended for both years)
-1965 Chassis Service Manual
-1965 Chassis Overhaul Manual
-1965 Body Service Manual

I have pictures of each manual on my web site so you can know what to look for. All but the body manual are available in reproduction reprints. I found my body manual on ebay. The overhaul manual tells you how to rebuild transmissions, engines, rear axles, steering boxes, etc. The two you will want which you will use the most are the '64 Shop Manual and the '65 Chassis Service Manual.

For a turn signal cancel cam, post the question in the Electrical and Wiring forum. Someone probably has pictures somewhere.

For panels and other body stuff,Go to the Body Shop forum and run a search on "Basic of basics". You'll get plenty of step-by-step instructions on several procedures that include the "whys" as well as the "hows".

You mean the guy who sold you the car dodn't make you take The Test?

Sheesh what is this world coming to when any Audi driver who needs INSTRUCTIONS for goodness' sake can buy a Chevelle? :D

J/K but I had to throw it in there smile.gif

You got all the info from the guys above. Posting a question to the appropriate forum for most things will get you more info than you dreamed.

Luck,

K

Actually, just to straigten things out, it's my girlfriend's A4 that I do work on for her...and trust me...with those things you need a roadmap.
