I've traced my car's history back to 1975 when a used car dealer here in central Pa. bought the car from a used car dealer in Maryland. I spoke to the family owned car dealer in Maryland but they only keep records back so many years(as required by law) so 1975 records are gone. Does anyone have any suggestions? Will the Transportation Dept. in Maryland do a title search for me on a currently Pa. titled car? Aren't there confidentiality laws in place now that will stop me from making any more progress on my search for my car's original owner? graemlins/sad.gif

Scott, Md has privacy laws, but they have to be activated by the Motorist, IIRC. Give it a try. There have been several system upgrades since then and the system back then was pretty archaic and I am sure that some old records were purged.

Leo,
No luck with a title search. Spoke to Maryland's Motor Division people today and was informed that privacy laws that went into effect 3 years ago prohibit them from giving me any information. Sure wish I would have done this 3 or more years ago.
ANYBODY HERE OWN AN ASTRO BLUE 1970 CHEVELLE SS 4 SPEED WITH BLACK INTERIOR AND LIVED IN MARYLAND PRIOR TO 1975? I MIGHT HAVE YOUR CAR!!!
Anyone have any connections to the underground of Maryland's Motor Vehicles Division? Guess I'm stumped! :(

Scott,
Try calling back the MVA, and if you can get a reasonable person on the phone, explain to them what you are trying to do and then ask them if they will forward a letter to the previous owners without giving you any of the information. They might be willing to do that and then it would be up to the previous owners to decide if they want to talk to you. Might be worth a try, but I would not hold my breath.

Here's a way you could waste a few dollars.
If you know the used car dealers city you could put an ad in the local paper there with a picture of the car. Maybe get lucky and someone will contact you.

Bill,
I called back to MVA this morning and spoke to a woman by the name of Mary June. She suggested writing a letter and mailing it to the Supervisor of Title Correspondence Unit and they may be willing to help me out. She was very helpful and believe it or not, her maiden name is Wolfe so we got to talking about our ancestors. Even though we may be related she was not willing to do anything illegal for me!! Imagine that!!
Anyway, I sent a very nice, begging, pleading, help me out type of letter to the Supervisor even offering to pay them for any postage or fees for their time. It's worth it to me if you know what I mean. I'll keep you posted and thanks again for the idea. smile.gif
