View Full Version : SUMMIT OR JEGS 70chevychevelle Jun 30th, 03, 10:14 AM which one do you guys perfer over the other summit or jegs. If both of them have the same part for the same price which one would you buy from and why? thanks for your input! graemlins/beers.gif MalibuMike70 Jun 30th, 03, 10:20 AM Jegs, summit's customer service...... well to be nice stinks. MikeJ Jun 30th, 03, 10:51 AM Let me put another twist on this. I tend to want to support everyone in the business who supports this hobby of ours. Don't really want to see anyone who caters to us to go out of business. More is better. So spread the wealth around - buy from a lot of vendors. Especially those that come to the local shows. They kind of weed themselves out anyway - putting you on hold for a long time is all it takes for me to call someone else, sales reps with no clue, too many backorders, etc... bob_adamsky Jun 30th, 03, 12:26 PM I buy from both and had good luck from both.Keeps both catalogs comming in the mail.Spent more at Summit DaleM Jun 30th, 03, 1:04 PM I've purchased from both with no problems. Summit has an easier web site to navigate (IMHO) and the same items are always a few pennies cheaper - xx.95 vs. xx.99 - why is beyond me. Very few things I buy that Summit doesn't have or can't backorder and backorders have always been filled on or before the expected date. Never had to return anything to either one so I can't attest to their "customer service". Stikman33 Jun 30th, 03, 1:30 PM Personally, i buy from Summit if they have it available, which the almost always do. They have much faster shipping in my experience. If i order it in the AM i get it the next day, with standard ground shipping. Daniel RussD Jun 30th, 03, 3:21 PM Same as Daniel. I use Summit, but the reason the shipping is faster for us west coast guys is because of that Sparks, NV wherehouse, if its in stock ups ground only takes a couple days. If jeg's had a wherehouse further west it'd be a pretty good competition. I ordered from Jeg's early on, same with year one, they both have good service, just took over a week to get my parts. Its not their fault though! I just try and stick with local shops, summit, and muscle factory, true connects and OPG now. Summit gets me stuff quick, PAW is a decent 30 min drive to chatsworth, and all the chevelle suppliers are within an hour as well. smile.gif 68Nomad Jun 30th, 03, 8:19 PM Depends on whose sticker you like better graemlins/beers.gif i'v had not probs with either. kamino69er Jun 30th, 03, 8:25 PM I prefer Summit just because being here in the west coast, I get my order next day. David Bates Jun 30th, 03, 8:42 PM I shop around! I have received good service from Summit, Jeg's and Northern to name a few. I do shop for the best prices but that is not the only consideration. TonawandaKid Jun 30th, 03, 11:25 PM Summit and jegs are both good.I think summit has cheaper shipping(not sure)most of the time I drive to there stores(columbus/akron) There was once a order I had with summit and something that they charged me for was wrong and put one of my visa's over limit!I called and made them see the light and they fixed the problem and also refunded my $29.over limit fee that was charged to my card. Jegs also matched northern price on the set of pistons I bought from them. -Kid Gokou Jul 1st, 03, 1:50 AM Summit's standard shipping gets to me in 1 day. It's a matter of location, Jegs is in the Midwest while Summit has a warehouse in Sparks, NV. I have to pay $9 for Jegs to get it to me in 2 days. As such I typically order from Summit, but have ordered from Jegs if Summit is out of stock. I like both places, haven't had a problem with either of them. Summit has been very understanding on my returns as well, including some parts which I opened and attempted to install. Always full credit with no fuss. Troy von Jul 1st, 03, 6:25 AM I usually use Jegs. If I order in the morning I have it the next day. I don't have to wait over a few seconds for a rep on the phone either. 72SS454Chevelle Jul 1st, 03, 7:10 AM Both are fine I have had no trouble from either one. I have also use Competition Products and Scoogin Dickey with very good results. Whittaker Jul 1st, 03, 8:11 AM I usually do Jegs, but Summit is often right in the mix. They both get stuff to me in 2-3 days. Ohio to Illinois is pretty quick. If they could by pass shipping to Chicago first it would be faster. I also use Competition Products. Very fast to get stuff to me and good prices but limited selection but they are just engine items. Again I echo the spread it around healty competion is good. Keep prices lower too. 1966_L78 Jul 1st, 03, 12:32 PM I usually use Summit, and mainly for similar reasons as others here... I live in California, and will often get my parts the next day from their Reno/Sparks warehouse... Summit has also been great with returns (for many reasons)... Jegs has been good those times I have used them, but thats usually when Summits Back-ordered... Its great seeing their catalogs all the time, but with the same prices (usually) and same parts listed, I wonder how much money they waste on printing/sending those out so often??? deejay Jul 1st, 03, 12:57 PM I've ordered mostly from Summit. When I order from Jegs it's kind of an inconvenience for me. Our credit card is in my wifes name and they won't accept the # from me, so I have to have her make the order for me. I'm not complaining about it. That's really the way it should be. I've had great service from both. Being as they're both here in Ohio, I always have my orders the next day. I've just recently found a small performance shop right here in Hamilton. They have the same prices, products are in the next day, and, I also save the $8.00 "free shipping" ;) phocksphyre Jul 1st, 03, 9:36 PM I have used both without problems. Jeg's gets parts to me fasterand my nephew works there, so that's my first choice! graemlins/thumbsup.gif John ejrempel Jul 1st, 03, 11:58 PM How sad, because they are usually not the best price. But Summit's service is very good, seems helpfull and friendly. We must be sure to ignore places like www.goautocenter.com (http://www.goautocenter.com) and www.flatlanderracing.com (http://www.flatlanderracing.com) coop Jul 2nd, 03, 11:05 AM Summit has much better customer service hands down. I have never had a problem with returns or adjustments. Jegs phone staff don't seem nearly as knowledgeable or helpful as summit either. cjlandry Jul 2nd, 03, 1:10 PM I've become wiser in the past couple of years and found that my local O'Reilly Auto Parts can get me almost anything that Summit and Jegs have for sale. They often have the performance parts I need in stock at their local warehouse, which means that they'll have it for me in about an hour. 95% of the rest of the time they can get it to me by the next morning. And there's no handling charge. I called from the rig Monday and ordered a few Holley parts. I gave her the part number and she said they'll be here when I get here. At a lower price than Summit or Jegs. And there's no handling charge. On expensive items where the local taxes will run more than the handling charge, Jegs is my first choice of the two because it's family owned and operated. They also advertise in Chevelle World, which I'm sure helps ACES. I certainly have no complaints about Summit though. The one issue I had with them was resolved immediately, plus they gave me an extra gift certificate which made me even happier. I have a Summit crank in my 357, and it has treated me very so far. If you shop around the internet, you'll find better pricing on engine internals, and some places really have "free shipping" (i.e.: No handling charge either). I've received excellent pricing and service from Dirt Track Thunder. But most often, these days, I get what I need at the local parts store. Did I mention that there's no handling charge? team5150 Jul 2nd, 03, 10:22 PM I live in Ca so I get my stuff from Summit overnight. I've spent more than I'd like to admit from them over the years. Their web site is more informative. I like to see what I'm going to get not a generic photo (just like this Nissan one - only for a chevy), written discription or drawing of it. Recently I had a problem with a fuel pump that I bought almost two months ago and had installed on the engine. They took it back and replaced it no questions asked and turned it around in a week. THAT'S what keeps me going back to them. graemlins/thumbsup.gif Tom LS6 PWR Jul 2nd, 03, 10:28 PM jeg's for me...cause they have COD...i dont own a credit card..and dont feel like waiting to send a money order through the mail... ejrempel Jul 2nd, 03, 11:30 PM Who owns Summit? Not owned by an individual? Oh, and btw, there is a button on most national chain cash registers called "competitive discount", which will flat out beat Summit or Jegs unless you talk the Christmas 10 off sale. |
