I put an Edelbrock carb on my 327. The original 4bbl aircleaner base diameter is too small to use. What bases will work so I can use the original upper part?

I pretty sure I can't answer your question even after you answer my follow up question, but perhaps someone else will know.

What is the diameter of the Edelbrock carb where the air cleaner will sit?

I'm not sure there will be a GM part that will readily fit but you might want to think about finding a 2-bbl carb air cleaner base and cutting a hole in it to fit your new carb. The 2-bbl air cleaner should be fairly inexpensive to obtain but should work with your existing top.

Sort of similar to what I did when I mounted the Holley 3310 on a 66 Holley iron intake. Cut the base hole bigger than the carb opening. Got the lower part of a 9" (?) chrome air cleaner that fit the carb. Cut the lip off the chrome air cleaner and JB Welded it to the original base. Roughed up the chrome piece and shot it black. Unless you remove the air cleaner nothing is visible. Looks stock sitting on the car.

You can use a L-79 base that is being reproduced now and still use your stock top. I have installed a Edelbrock 600cfm on my 64 and then purchased the Repo L-79 base and chrome dual top breather. It made a nice job and most folks don't have a clue that it's not factory stock

We have the same problem on our 65, holley carb and the air cleaner won't fit. I was going to take a hole saw and saw the bottom out of the stock base, and do the same on an aftermarket base then weld the new base in and fab it up to look stock

Hello,

I have had success over the years when installing a stock 64-67 air cleaner lid in conjuction with a base from a late 60's-early 70's Cadillac. Usually these will fit onto just about any newer carb, but you need to pay attention to throttle linkange travel. Let me know if you need any photos.
