: Help! What's it worth??
grooves12 Jun 7th, 02, 1:26 AM I am thinking of selling my '70 Chevelle. It started out as a project of mine with VERY high hopes... was going to do a complete restoration with top of line everything. However, I lost my job about a year ago... and other priorities took over. Due, to the fact that I dont think I will ever be able to put the car together the way I would like, I would rather pass it on to someone who has the means to take care of it right now.
Anyways... here is a brief description.
-100% RUST FREE!!! Body is completely straight except for a large dent on the right front fender. No creases... should pop out.
-Reprduction Cowl induction hood with flapper door, and all vacuum hardware.
-Oridinal Disk Brakes.
-NO Interior. Was completely ripped out to be replaced. This includes dash. However I have several SS dashes to go along with it, along with an automatic center console, and bucket seats.
-Vintage Air Sure-Fit A/C Kit.
-Many Misc/Parts.
-Everything that was removed from the car was kept and is organized in bins.
I know this is a tough job without seeing the car... but it is really nice, completely straight rust-free vehicle (even under the rear window and behind the lower area of both quarter panels and fenders.) Just looking for a ballpark range to help me decide if its worth it to sell, or whether I'll just keep it till I get back on my feet.
Thanks... sorry about the length of the post.
70Elky396 Jun 7th, 02, 6:08 AM Keep it until you get back on your feet, if possible. You will certinly regret it later on. However, if you don't have the tools, garage, and resorces to complete a large project like this, then perhaps you would be better off selling it and later on find something that you can enjoy driving and make improvements a little at a time.
You did'nt mention if it has an engine and tranny or the condition. Also rear axle and gear ratio. These details can make a big difference in a "what's it worth" price.
Good luck!

grooves12 Jun 7th, 02, 4:38 PM Well, I really would like to keep it... but it keeps looking like its going to be longer and longer before I am able to be in a situation where I would be able to put it back together, and the credit card debt continues to mount and selling this would help me out quite a bit in that regards.
... but to answer your question. No engine or tranny in the car. However I have a Turbo 400 (ora Turbo 350) and an Unassembled 454 (All new parts, machined block, etc.) That I might sell with it. Rear is 12-bolt open diff... with I beleive 3.08's.
I am thinking I might just put it together with a cheap 350 and get it in running condition, but I dont know.
How much value would a running car in this condition be over an unassembled project like I currently have?
Professor_SS Jun 7th, 02, 5:28 PM there was a similar post a few weeks ago and after relating the local going rate, the guy decided to part it out to get his money out of it. Half done or abandoned projects don't get much. Your better off, if you have the storage space to cover it and forget it for a couple of years. When your back on your feet make a decision on finishing it or passing it on to someone else. Dumping it like this is going to be "that one that you wish you had kept" the rest of your life. THey aren't making any more of them and rust free is getting harder and harder to find. So unless your really up against it and need the bucks, what few you can expect to get out of it, keep it.
Oh, by the way... locally
running daily drivers 1500 to 2K
abandoned projects 200 to 1k tops
really nice cars 14-15 to 17 k
I bought a running 70 factory air 307 glide malibu with 48k miles, moderate rust bad tranny for less than 500 a while back, it is my next project car. A buddy of mine just bought a 10 year barn stored 71 for 150.00, and we had it running in about an hour.

tblw68ss Jun 7th, 02, 5:33 PM Sounds like it'd be a good sound project, as to value, as bad as it sounds, it's only worth what someone would pay for it. Also geographical location makes a lot of difference. Check around to see what like cars either completed, or projects are selling/asking prices in your area. I've seen some dissasembled partially constructed projects sell for more than a running car, but I don't think that is the norm. Do you have a running engine to install, or would it take more money to make the car a runer?
Good luck, hate to see that you'd have to get rid of the car, but I understand, I've had to do the same before.
