: I ruined my paint!

When I bought my Chevelle the paint was 4 days old and came with the SS stripes down the side. I never really cared for the stripes, so yesterday after I washed the car and found that in the doorjam the stripe was coming off (quite cleanly), I figured I could take it all off without any problems. My mistake... I got about halfway through and in spots the paint started coming off with the stripe (OUCH!!!). So, it looks like I get to make a trip to the paint shop to see if they can help me out. Since I'm definately not a paint and body kind of guy, there's no way I'm even gonna try to fix this. This post is so I won't be the only one crying about this. Please people sympathize with me!

Real bummer Chris http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif. Good luck with the fix.

I like the way the stripes look on your ride Don. The white looks great with the blue. Mine just never looked right to me (black on red). It really hurts to look at it right now but it may actually be for the best. I needed to have it buffed and I wanted to have a couple of coats of clear sprayed anyway (it's a hardened enamel paint). So, this way I'm forced to do it sooner than later.

That's too bad Chris.

I think that white stripes look nice on red paint.
Why don't you just change them?

I like the white too. Just not the black that was on mine. I was actually debating adding a set of stripes like the ones that came on the '70 SS. What do you guys think?

---Chris

Edit--- By the way, my Chevelle is a '69 model.

I've seen it done. It looks good.
Oh.. and we all took a guess about your year when you said "side SS stripes" http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
It has to be a 69 http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif
Only 69 SS Chevelles came with a side stripe only (Other years had the strips going on the piece before as well)

Why don't you order some new stripes and cover up the damage if you could..
Just a thought..

It's like I said a little earlier, I'm not really too hip to the side stripes. If I have to put a new set on to keep the paint cost down (I didn't win the lotto last weekend http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif) I think I'll add a set of white ones. But I'd really like to just get the paint fixed since I think mine looks better without them.
