stripping the firewall and cowl now and have more of these than i care to count. my intent is NOT to make a "Smooth" firewall, but does filling these little spots and such make a visible difference in the finished product? Thanks Dave

Dave,
I filled or leveled many of those dimples in my firewall and even tapped down some of the pimples you are talking about and it did make a big difference. I did not go for the "SMOOTH" firewall either, just wanted to clean it up a bit.

I also opted for making mine better but not making it totally smooth. I removed the old seam sealer on the firewall and then detailed the gap and removed some of the rough edges on the different pieces. By the brake booster mounting area on the seam there were like 3 layers of spot welded together edges that I detailed out so it looked better and then put on new seam sealer. I didn't gook it on like originally but just enough to seal it up and look better.
I did a lot of hammer and dolly work and some spot filling and blocked a lot of it out pretty much trying to get rid of the spots where you could see the spot welds. As it is now it's a little smoother than originally and should also be easier to clean and maintain.
I also detailed the stamped opening edges of the steel around the fuse block/bulkhead area and also some other spots where the metal had torn edges from having a piece stamped out of it.
It's all in the attention to details.
