The other I saw a 68 El Camino SS with the Super Sport Stripes. I have seen the stripes on Chevelles but not on El Caminos. I checked Year One and OPG and both show the Stripe kits for the Chevelle and El Caminos.

Does anyone know any particulars here.. Does it apply to any Trim Codes or Vins.

Thanks

The SS stripe in 1968 was an added cost option identified as D-96. These were the double stripes that followed the front contour of the header panel and then dropped down the fender to just above the body side moulding and extended all the way to the rear bumper. They were available in black, red, or white. I have heard that this option was unavailable on the SS where the rocker panels, or the area below the body side mouldings, recieved the black paint. I know this to be untrue however, as I have owned two 68SS396 coupes that had the black lower body and D-96 stripe. One was Grecian Green with black stripes, the other was Cordovan Maroon with white stripes. The stripes were absolutely available on SS396 El Caminos as well. They may also have been available on Malibus, etc.
On a personal note, I don't think any '68 SS396 or SS396 El Camino is complete without the stripe, even though it was an option.

According to GM literature the stripe kit only available on the SS...hardtop, convertible, and El Camino.
