Currently, I have a 3-speed stick in my 1969 396 chevelle. I want this car to get the quickest 1/4 mile speed possible, so I am trying to figure out what the best manual tranny is.... should I put in a muncie 4-speed? Corvette 6-speed? 5-speed?? I have no idea so somebody help me out. Also, I am planning on putting 3.73 gears in the rear.

Have someone build you a bullet-proff TH-400.

With those gears you better go with a Muncie M20. I myself like 4-spds. But if this is going to be a 1/4 mile track car then go with a beefed up auto.

Believe it or not, the best manual trans you can run would be the three speed with a 4:11 rear end. May not last too long, but considering ratios, that's it. Next would be a tricked up turbo 350 with a higher stall torque converter. Close ratio four speed would be next with the 4;11. With a 3;70 rear you would want a little lower first gear ratio which would call for a Richmond Gear trans. tom
