: '69 L78 Fuel Line Routing

Does anyone have a '69 L78 or COPO with original fuel line? In the area of the two heater hose to engine connections, does the fuel line go in between the hoses or pass to the driver side of the one that connects to the intake?

Von,

I remember strugling with my assembly at the time of the fuel line instalation. It certainly appears that it could go either way. Without going out to the garage and lifting my hood to check with my final routing... I know my final thought was to not have it touch the "hot" heater hose when completed.
Well I couldn't stand it I just went out lifted the hood and looked... Actually it passes to the passenger side of the hose that attaches to the intake. And runs down the edge of the valve cover.
Sorry it took so long to get back I really enjoy looking at that Big Block, fuel line and all. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Brian, Don's pic shows what you and I have. When I installed my repro fuel line, it wanted to pass through the heater hose-intake connection. I had to bend it to go to the passenger side of it. It's actually up against that hose. It has to be against one hose or the other. It appears the repro line wasn't made 100% accurate (big surprise). What started the question for me was that I saw on Jerry Beasley's Gold Class Stock '69 Chevelle at Super Chevy, his fuel line passed on the driver side of the heater hose-intake connection. Since then I've looked at some old photos in Chevelle books that appear to be from that era, and our routing is similar to the photos.

Mine passes to the driver's side of the one that connects to the intake. Mine is an original L78, but the line was replaced during the restoration.

Well guys, I guess I'll summarize by saying... If we got the fuel line from the fuel pump to the "Y" fitting and it doesn't leak we're in good shape. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Follow up question... The "Y" connection that all of you are using, is it free floating or does it have a bracket that attaches to the intake manifold?

Mine is a repro and is free floating. At the time I purchased mine from a local company in Medina, Ohio called Fine Lines. I showed them a picture from the factory assy manual that shows it connecting to the intake manifold with a bracket... They said they had never seen one like this before. So I took the "Free Floating" unit as it was all they had available.
It seems somone is making them now with the bracket. I saw one last year on a L78 Camaro SS. He had just recently purchased it, but I don't know from where.

No bracket on mine either.

I believe the Y block with brace is correct. Ground Up has them for $37 without lines in the catalog. The corresponding intake bolt stud is $3.95. My repro Y block doesn't have the brace either.

Not to butt in but did anyone check what The Right Stuff might have available? I've found their reproduction fuel and brake lines to be some of the best and most accurate around.

Let me jump in here with some information. This is a quote from the 69 Camaro Book by Jerry MacNeish who I trust implicidly:

it must be noted that only late production cars (approximately from May, 1969 on) have a mounting bracket attached to the fuel block.

I guess you can make your own assumption if the same thing was done with our Velles. I put on a new block this spring, and since mine has a March build date, I did not get the one with the bracket.

Just a little tidbit I thought to throw in.
