Whats available now is too flat. The formula was changed a few years ago. A better choice is Eastwoods Underhood Black. I have some parts painted with this, some with the old GM resto black and some original paint under my hood and it is almost impossible to tell the three apart.

Theres no single correct color black, and not ever car had the same "flatness"... many parts were painted separately with glossier black, such as radiators and heater boxes, the frame was painted a different gloss than the fenderwells, the firewall is a different gloss than the frame, etc... so to say a single black is the "correct" one to use isnt really "correct".

Another good substitute is Krylon #1613 Semi Flat black. I've use a ton of this on my '70 Elky and like its looks, plus Wally World carries it if you run out on a weekend!
