Were there only two lens available for the 67 dash? One for the automatic and one for the standard. I want to replace mine, and I am wondering if the manual lens will have a hole in it for the clock stem(which I don't want).
If all of the lens have the clock hole was a plug used, and are they available?

I am not an authority on this but I believe that only cars that received the Gauge option would have had a lens with no hole. All others regardless of transmission would have had a hole for either the clock or clock delete (with plug).

Clock options:
1. 300 (131-13200), 300 Deluxe (133-13400) would have no clock unless ordered, i.e., not standard equipment and a plugged lens would be used.
2. Malibu (135-13600), Concours (137-13835) and SS396 (13817-67) did have standard clock - regardless of trans type and clock would be in right pod with hole in lens - UNLESS -
3. If Malibu or SS396 ordered console (w/mandatory buckets), clock was moved to console and plugged lens would be used.
...or...
4. If Malibu and SS396 ordered RPO U14 Special Instrumentation (available on V8 sport coupe and convertible only), clock would either be (1) mounted on the floor w/bench seat-no console or (2) w/bucket seat-in the console itself and blank lens would be used.

Confusing?

To put it another way, the plugged lens would be on all 300, 300 Deluxe (assuming clock not ordered under RPO U35), all V8 sport coupes and convertibles w/RPO U14 Special Instrumentation, and all sport coupes and convertibles w/bucket seats and console would have a blank lens (not plugged).

Been so long since I've had a 67 cluster apart I'm not sure if the trans shift indicator for automatics is on the lens or not. If it is, then there would have to be one each with and one each without holes to cover all bases. AIM doesn't break the cluster down since it would have been installed at Fisher Body. My guess is they'd have 3 with instructions to drill the hole as necessary.

No such option as 'clock delete'. Clocks were NOT standard on 300 (131-13200) and 300 Deluxe (133-13400) but were standard on Malibu and SS396 series. And, FYI, there is no 'radio delete' as all radios were optional, you can't delete what wasn't standard equipment. smile.gif I think the only standard item that could be deleted as the heater under RPO C48 which received a $70 or credit.

milehighSS--From what Iv seen in the after market repro dash lens, you have to drill out the clock stem hole if needed-I dont know if your looking to get a repro lens,or an orig part. But thats what I know bout this topic---67rat

I have learned so much reading dales posts-- graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I was just going to buy a repo lens. I have seen lenses listed for an automatic and for a manual transmission car, but not with or without a clock option. I was hoping to get a blank lens with no hole. If I got a clock hole, I didn't know about a plug.

Clear as mud?

So they have lenses without the hole? My car has bucket seats and center console and idiot lights. It doesn't have a clock in the dash, just a block out plate and it has a small hole in the lense with a plug. Is this wrong?

Just checked on O.P.G...They show 3 different lens. One for the turbo-hydro automatic. One for the powerglide automatic. One for the 4 speed.-------All three specs read(lens must be drilled for clock stem)--67rat

RODEO73,dont know if its wrong, but it is strange!!

The repros are nice but the line along the base of the speedo is painted silver not chrome as original. At least the one I have is that way.

RODEO, I believe yours is correct. If you ordered the console, then the clock in the cluster would now be redundant because of the one in the console. In its place a delete plate with cross hair was used with a plug for where the clock knob would have been in the speedo lens. Most cars I have seen with a clock delete plate did not have a blank lens but rather the lens with clock stem with hole molded into the lens itself, unless as Dale mentioned, you had the gauge option or 300 and therefore it would be blank (i.e. have no stem with hole)...By the sounds of it the repros do not have the molded stem, you simply drill a hole if necessary.

Not like you can drill a hole either! The clock hole has a "Boss" around it to prevent cracking.

NOTE:
The '66 and '67 gauge clusters vary slightly though, for example;
The high beam light on a 66 is in the cluster where as in the 67 it is in a pod that luminates thru the lens.

I have 3 of the cluster lens with the boss'd hole (originals), but since I'll be going to SS guages (Repop Guage Kit) I guess I'll be needing to get one without the hole.

I purchased a repro lense (for 1966) and there is no hole and no blank boss for a hole... just smooth...

I just purchased a speedo lens as well, from Year One. I have a 66 Malibu, that used to have a Powerglide in it. I am converting over to a B&M street bandit floor shifter and Flaming River tilt column. The speedo lens I purchased "does not" have a hole drilled in it for the clock. Does someone have a lens with the hole in it for the clock stem, that was in a floor shift car? I am wanting to get rid of the "P R N D L" on the lens. Or can I maybe use some brake cleaner or paint thinner to remove it?

Speaking of lens panels/guage asm. Does the guage panel on a 67 with the speed warning option difer from a standard gauage panel. I have the option and was wanting to put in the "Repop Guage Kit" and I was looking at puchasing another guage panel to modify if need be. Also, does anyone have experience with the afetmarket Repop Guage Kits. thanxs david

Chevydog,
You can file off the letters and then use progressively finer sandpaper to polish it back up. You can get sandpaper kits from a hobby shop that start at 3600 and go to 3800, 4000, 6000, 8000, 10000, and 12000 grit. There will be a slight distortion when looking closely at the lens but it is virtually impossible to detect when installed in the car. This way you can retain your original speedo lens...just an option.
