I am about to convert my 70 SS nogauge dash to one with gauges. Is the standard 70 SS tach 0-7000 with a redline at 5500? I have read that L78, L89 & LS6 redlined at 6500. I was assuming the tachs for 396 'and LS5 were same

Chuck, you're correct. The redline for the 454 LS5 and the L34 396 are the same; 5500 rpm. The 6500 is for the others you mentioned.

Thanks 4spdrat. My replacement gauge cluster should arrive any day if UPS cooperates. Anybody out there know of a good gauge tester/rebuilder? I suppose I could find one or two in Hemmings.

Hey Chuck, I recently had my cluster restored by D&M Restorations. Here's a link to a previous thread that also has some before and after pics. Look for the reply from me.

Jeff, thanks for the input and previous discussion reference. Your stuff looks great. This web site is unreal.

LS5 cars could also have a 5000 rpm redline tach.
