On 70 Chevelle big blocks,I've seen some negative battery cables attached to the alternator bracket, and others to the engine (I think). What determined where they were mounted to ? Trying to figure out what's right for my car.

Hi,I believe that they were mounted on the alternator bracket on all 70 big block cars except the L78 and LS6.Some of them had it attached to the head, but I believe even some of them had it on the alternator brackets also.Different plants did it different.

I'll go a step farther and say different people did it different at different plants and times..
Plants and engines and time periods didn't matter.
I don't believe the Assembly manual was correct. It was all about who was working that shift at that time.
There is no definitive answer, and it was not specified on the Buildsheet.

On the LS6 cars that mostly came with T60 batteries on the build sheet in box 51 will read PE or FV. The PE cable goes to the alternator bracket and the FV goes on the head.

Thanks for the info. Mine came with the T60 and the cable is an FV.

I have an LS-6 that shows PE in box 51 and is grounded at the head.It also shows PE on the cable.
I also have an LS6- T-60 cable with TE on it.
