how many 65 Z16's are known to exist? i'm going to look at what is claimed to be one. the son of the original owner has the car with what he says is full documentation.they started to modify it for drag racing in 1970 but lost interest and put it away and never touched it again.car is black on black and has original engine. Inner fender wells are cut out but frame is not touched.price is $7500.what are these cars worth now in restored condition?

Wrong forum for this type question. Check the Restoration Forum (http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/forum/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Restoration+Corner&number=30&DaysPrune=2&LastLogin=) . Someone there will have plenty of good info for you.

Here is a list of all forums: http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/forum/Ultimate.cgi

IF its a real Z16, thats a steal. Good Luck. And Welcome to the group.

I think there are a little over 2 dozen known to exist today. There are a good number of incomplete or destroyed cars documented hidden around the country as well. Maybe someone else with more Z16 knowledge can pipe in with more specific data on this area.

In fully correctly restored condition they can easily creep into the 6-figure range in value.

There are a huge number of parts that make a Z16 unique from all other '65 Chevelles so unless the car is mostly complete it could still be quite costly to restore it properly let alone the difficult nature of finding certain Z16-only parts it may need. If it is complete or nearly so that price is a total bargain.

Once met a lucky owner of one. He told me that there were only 201 that were even built. You figure close to half are dragstrip refugees, so there are maybe 75-100 left. This is just a guestimate though. And I would imagine that Rich is correct about the number of resto/origional ones.

201 is correct. Rumor has it that the last one was a convertible.
