: 69 SS ?
Donnie1 Nov 1st, 02, 3:58 AM did all 69 SS Chevelles come with boxed lower rear control arms, and rear sway bar like the 70's
and is there anyway to tell if a 69 is an SS car with out a build sheet?
can the P.O.P. give any insight.

Don_Lightfoot Nov 1st, 02, 9:15 AM Not all 69 SS's got the rear sway bar setup (RPO F41) as it was strictly an option. In fact, according to Chevelle World magazine only 722 cars came equipped with it.
Yes, the POP should provide sufficient information to confirm an SS. You might want to check here which may help as well:

Joey B Nov 1st, 02, 11:51 AM As a side question to this, is it 100% true that el camino SS could never have F41? I read that all the time, but would bet there were some made with it. Also, when was the earliest that F41 became available? was it mid-late 69, or was it offered all year?
d1_bradley Nov 1st, 02, 1:04 PM Have a friend with a 2 owner 69 Camino. Not a SS. It has T400 and boxed arms and air shocks (original) with a small block.

Joey B Nov 1st, 02, 2:40 PM The reason i ask is because my el camino had a sway bar and boxed arms when i bought it. THe 12 bolt seems to be original, and the arms/bar looked to have been on there forever... if it was ever added it had to have been done 25 years ago or longer.I don't have any buildsheet or anything to go by, and have been told by people "in the know" that they never put swap bars or boxed arms onthe elky SS's, nor were they even available as an option. I can't swear mine ever had them originally, but it sure did appear that way to me. I guess anythings possible, but unless you have a buildsheet to prove it, its just looked at as "wrong".

Don_Lightfoot Nov 1st, 02, 3:58 PM Well Donnie, we just had a major debate on that in here recently. It appears the 325 & 350 HP cars would have had the same redline, probably somewhere in the 5200-5500 range (not sure). The 375 HP cars could have got a 6000 or 6500 redline and that was where the debate really started and there were reasonable arguments on both sides. I sincerely hope this same debate will not start up again http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
Hope this helps.

Mr69 Nov 1st, 02, 11:28 PM 325 and 350hp 396 cars had 5500 redline.
375hp 396 cars had 6000 redline.
There's no such thing as a 6500 redline on a 1969 Chevelle! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Joey B Nov 1st, 02, 11:47 PM See, i hope the debate DOES start up again, cause neither side provided any proof for their argument... it faded into oblivion and no one "won" the case.... If its just "they did/they didnt back and fourth with no pictures or proof, then yes, i hope it doesnt start again. Nate, when this argument came up the last time you said you had pictures of 6500 rpm redline tachs with different yellow lines, proving that at least one of the 2 was a fake... where are these pics?

Joey B Nov 1st, 02, 11:49 PM And what about my 1st of 3 side questions from the original question... when did the F41 become avaialble in 69? And is it possible el caminos had it on rare occasions too?

Bow_Tied Nov 2nd, 02, 12:19 AM Does the box lower arms without the sway bar indicate F40 suspension?
I am pretty sure that F40 was standard on SS equipped cars.
