I bought an aluminum intake from eBay and it was painted.

I sandblasted it and it came up very nice.

Should I put any protective finish/coating on it?
Will it stay looking good w/o a coating?

You'll most likely have to have it "Jet-Coated" or something similar. If you clear coat with paint, it will probably yellow. I'm sure someone else will pipe in with their experience.

Best to just leave it natural. Any clear paint will yellow as Nick said. Clean ocasionally with windex and enjoy. These tipps were given to me by an elderly gentalman that use to work in the winters foundry many years ago. I glass beaded my L78 intake nearly 4 years ago and it still looks great today. Glass beading leaves a smoother finish. My Chevelle is not a daily driver so it is not exposed to any heavy use...(Except when the urge to mash the gas pedal comes along!) http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

In my opinion after 4 years since my refinish the old mans advice has been the best.

In response to your question. I've used a
high temp. clear in a spray bomb made by VHT.
Its good for 1200-1500 degrees. Don't put it on too thick or it might yellow.Hope this
helps.Have a nice day http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

I shot a very light coat of eastwood aluminum paint on mine... looks like its natural and can be wiped off easier.
