I was wondering, did the front control arms get painted before or after the bushings and sleeves were installed at the factory? I'd like to know before I rebuild my front end.

Also, would brushing on POR-15 be a good thing to paint them with? Thanks, Shawn

Shawn,

I blasted and painted mine before the shop pressed the bushings. Just be real careful not to paint in a ton of it around the bushing holes. I've seen where it's a little tough to get things back in because the paint is too thick. I will say that after a year of daily driving the POR is holding up great!

Shawn,
I had my control arms powdercoated before installing the bushings. I always install my own bushings and it's easy to do after the painting, just have to take a little care. POR 15 will work fine. Just keep a little extra for touch up.

Use a die grinder with a cartridge roll on it to clean paint out of the bushing holes !
Just don't remove any metal !!

before you paint, put a thin coat of vaseline in the bushing holes. spray your paint after its dry wipe the paint out of the bushing holes. and press in your bushings

Also,
powdercoating companies will use a high temperature tape to cover the areas that you do not want coated.

Thanks, looks like I'll do it before I get the bushings in. Can I leave the old sleeves and paint them or would it be best to get them out and just put all new ones in?

Shawn. That sleeve that you see in the hole is part of the bushing. The new ones will have that sleeve on them.
