Does a flexplate on a 350 automatic have counterweights on it? The one on mine doesnt have them and my buddy thinks it should to be the proper flexplate. We just finished assembling my motor and we are putting the tranny on.

Only the 400 sbc has weights on it.

And, of course, the 454, but not normally found in front of a TH350, but there are plenty of them out there!

Would it matter if my tranny is a TH400? The person who owned it before me installed a 400 tranny but its the original 350 motor.

The question of counter weights relates to the motor not the transmission. TH350/400 makes no difference.

The flex plate matters to the engine balance regardless of transmission. SBC400 abd BBC454 are externally balanced (counterweight on flexplate and harmonic balancer), other engines are not. If your engine is a 350, then there should not be counterweights.

Blaster,
What year is your 350 ??? The late model motors which have a one piece rear main seal DO have a weight on the flywheel. If yours is a 2 pc seal motor (pre 1986) then it should not have any weights.
Hope this helps,

Its a 72 Malibu convertible. It has a 2 piece seal.

It could have small balance weights for the flex plate its self, nothing to do with the engine as they are balanced separately as individual parts...FRED
