You may remember all my posts of a drivetrain ticking I can't get rid of. I've talked to and had guys listen to this engine and all say it shouldn't tick. Now a guy at comp cam says they all tick a little.
I adjusted these the last time with covers off and engine running. as soon as I gave them a quarter turn the engine bogs the noise goes away for a second. Then the rpm's come back up and the ticking reappears. ON EVERY LIFTER!
I've come to wits end with comp cam. I'm thinking of just pulling her and getting a new cam set up. Any suggestion?

I had exactly the same issue with my Comp cam - no amount of ajusting would make the hydro lifters stop ticking.
Comp first said it was the roller tipped rockers (Comp's own) that were the culprit. I replaced them with stockers - still ticking.
Comp then said it's the nature of the cam - agressive ramps and all that. Right.
Then the #5 cylinder exhaust lobe went away.
Replaced the Comp cam with a Wolverine grind; more duration and lift but with a 2* wider LSA.
No more ticking.

I have a Comp Cam XE284 and it does tick a bit, but I'm happy with its performance. I have also read that it is normal for these cams to tick and sound like solid lifter cams. I have had this cam for two years and it keeps my 350 SB in the mid to low 12's at the track.

I've had two Comp cams in my big block. A 268H that I ran for about 10 years and the newly installed XE262H. Maybe they're not "aggressive" enough or the Flowmaster muffle any noise but I've never had them make a bit of noise. I use stock rockers and the complete Comp Cams kit (springs, retainers, lifters, etc.).
