: A Pillar Gauge Pod

Does anyone here have pics of one of these installed. I need to do some rearranging in my dash, and i think i will using one of the gauge pods.

The only one i have found is made for 2 1/16" gauges. I have 2 5/8" gauges. If i just cut the holes bigger in the pod, will that create and problems with clearance on the backside? or do i need to get different size gauges?

thanks
-Matt

dude, those guages that large won't fit the pod, and they would look dumb anyway that big, just use the smaller guages, and that fella (god i wish i could remember names) that went on our dyno day had the guage pod in his velle, looks great, im going to install the one he gave me soon (if i ever get my car back)

Don't forget that electric gauges will fit better, so make sure there are gauges avialable you like before you order your pod.

Summit carries those Autometer gauge pods.

You can also go to Noneck.com to see these installed on his '72SS

Hey guys, here is a link:
Autometer A-Pillar Gauge Pod for 68-72 Chevelle (http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=search.asp%3FType%3Dbykeyword%2 6Part%3Dchevelle%20pod%26Search.x%3D1%26SearchType %3DBoth).

Ok guys, after debating in my mind for a while earlier, i dont think i will be doing the gauge pod. I love how it looks, but i am going to go a more custom route. I want to have all 4 of my gauges together so I will be rearraging and fabricating a whole new piece for my dash, where the radio, AC controls, and vent are in the middle. I made a littel sketch of it, but i cant get it to upload to the showroom right now. (on a dial-up right now)

Thanks for the help though.

I have a row of 4 of the large gauges on the passenger side below the glove compartment on my 69 camino, looks sweet. I can take a pic for you later on show you how it's mounted. I'm stuck at work now though

Ok, here is my dsh setup now, with one exception. The stock AC controls are gone and i have much smaller Vintage Air contols now, but in the same spot:
Current dash. (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/tempmattleuckdash.jpg)

Here's my new idea.
Idea For New Dash. (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/tempmattleuckdashnew.jpg)
It looks like crap, but let me explain. That lower row of gagues will be set in a box like th radio is now, and will be moved foreward bit so that i can use one solid piece of alumnum to mount all 4 gauges and the AC controls. This way it will have some continutiy. The radio goes up to the current AC control spot. I will take out that small tach, put in a tranny temp gauge, and them most likely mount a 3 3/4" tachon the top corner of the drivers side A-pillar.

I think i will look very nice when i get it done. My photo edititing abilities leave something to the imiagination though.
Any suggestions for the dash idea?

-Matt

I have of picture of my Gauge Pod on my website. I think I picked up my pod over a year ago. I guess helps knowing the owner of Gauge Works.

Note: in the picture I have screws holding in the pod but it does come with black thumb screws.

Just one: lose the sweep speedo! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

you know what you need is: http://www.auburnextremeracing.com/drivers/mike/mikes001.jpg

I've since deleted the AC head unit and plated it. The upper AC duct plate has a series of swtiches installed. I also have a 3 count gauge cluster below my dash. I plan to integrate my dash bottom (ash tray area) down to my custom consol (camaro piece) and have the three gauges there, maybe for with the last being N20 related. I also want to bring the floor heater out in a more efficent manner with one outlet on each side of the box.

All I need is th freakin' time to do it. Winter is what this crap if for and I'm too busy. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

I wont run an A-pillar pod untill my car gets boosted. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif It and an EGT gauge will be there. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/cool.gif I'll have more gauges than Gene has posts. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I'm keeping a close eye on myself to be sure that doesn't happen. I do not own a monster tach and the one I have isn't bolted to the top of the dash. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

I just like to keep an eye on what's going on with my car. The vacuum gauge helps me keep the throttle position just above the Power valves opening point. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Matt, why not convert the whole sweep to guages (check my site for a custom guage set in it's place) or run them 4 in a row where the radio is and move the radio down using a radio mount (they look great and mount under the dash. now what would be REAL cool is a ss dash with autometer guages installed. it's possible and the dashes can be picked up reasonably cheap...

John, what you described with taking out the sweep and putting in gauges is exactly what Mike did. I think this is the route I will take.
What you decribed with the 4 gauges in the radio spot and the radio in a custom box below is exactly what i have right now Current Dash (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/tempmattleuckdash.jpg). I just want something more custom.

I like the SS dash idea but is there room for 2 large gauges and 4 smaller? Not having an SS dash, i cant mentally picture one right now.
(By the way, the guy whose name you couldnt remember with the pillar pod was TurboDave)

Anyone ever considered a custom gauge pod on TOP of the dash, kind of in the center angled back towards the driver?
Maybe something that could be fabricated from aluminum, and the dash re-vinyled to look as though it came that way. that's an idea I've had for a while, but I've never attempted it.

That is a good idea but how would you seem the pod to the dash seamlessly? There would not be a smooth transition from one vinyl to the other unless you re vinyled the whole dash with one piece, right?

I'm in the process of finishing my dash. i removed the sweep dash and I'm replacing it with 3 3/4 tach and speedo and then (4) 21/16 gauges. I've put a grey vinyl over the sheet metal for a different look. I hope to have pics to post next week. I'm real happy with the way it turned out.
