I want to put my sb engine on a stand so I can assemble the clutch, bellhousing and standard trans, and leave sit for a while. I have an engine stand on casters where you remove the bellhousing and bolt up to those bolt holes, and you can rotate engine. I want to built something different that you can sit the engine on with trans attached. Anyone build one, or have pictures? Just need some ideas before I start cutting and welding. Thanks.

I have seen some engine stands that grab the engine from the side. They bolt in using the motor mount bolts. Don't know how much weight I would want to hang from that type of set-up though.

How about using a movers dolly. Make some mounts that bolt to the engine mounts and rest the back of the motor on the oil pan with a cushion so it doesn't get hurt. This would leave the back of the motor free to put the fly wheel and tranny on and still move it around. Might work! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

unclepennybags--- that's the type I had in mind, but no image or pictures to take it further. Maybe someone out there can refer me to a site that has photos. Thanks for the posts.

BHAWK - If you want I can look at the engine stands that I was talking about. We have them at work. At the very least I can get you a brand name. That way you could look them up on the web and see what they look like.
If I remember correctly, the stand and 4 wheels was under the engine with two arms that come up. The one arm had a rotating pole that bolted to the engine in the motor mount area, the other arm directly across that also bolted to the opposite side motor mount area with a head and crank to rotate the engine.

unclepennybags--- I would much appreciate the brand name of the stand you describe so I can look them up for picture on the web. Sounds close to what I had in mind. Thanks again.

The engine stand is mfg by J. G. Devin Co. It has Devin painted on the back so you might try that for a web search. The company is located in Yorkshire NY. Model # for the stand I was talking about is 1035 FMR. There is also 835-WG-7 cast onto the the head unit.
Hope this helps you out.
