I've got a little white smoke when car is first cranked. Goes away when car warms up. Is the carb running a little rich or could it be a bigger problem. Motor has about 3000 miles on it.

Probably normal. White "smoke" is typically water vapor. Unless a head gasket is leaking, then the water vapor is probably just from condensation in the exhaust after you shut the engine off. Water is one of the byproducts of combustion. If it smells sweet and/or you see it when the engine is warm, then it is probably engine coolant.

I have the same problem on occasion. Was thinking I had a head gasket going. After a little investigation it seems the heater hose at the heater core is leaking a little. It drips right down onto the header collector. I get a small about of white smoke but goes away when it gets warm. I think the hose seals up when it's hot. I've checked the plugs and oil and there's no sign of water in the system, so I betting on the heater hose. I hope I'm right!! If not, she'll be rebuilt as a BSE!!!! Just something to check

Engine is a 396, 375 hp.....You actually see the smoke when you first crank, not when you shut it off, espc. if the car has been setting not cranked for a few weeks.

If your engine has forged pistons it will smoke a little when first started cold, my 396 has about 4000 miles and smokes a little when cold started, but when warm, not a puff.

This is pretty normal for most all chevy engine,,a bit of oil leaks down onto the piston tops and upon starting the velle the oil is burt off, creating the smoke,,,no major problem!
