I thought I knew the answer to this until today. What type of reservoir should be on the 68 396-325HP power steering pump ? The one with the seperate reservoir with a hose going to the pump or the pump which is self contained. The one that came on my 68 has the seperate reservoir. It shows the self contained set-up in the assembly manual. In the Ground-Up cat. it shows 65-68 being the same.I thought the reservoir was bolted to the radiator support up thru 68. Anyone know which is the CORRECT set-up. Thanks,Bill Rose

I'm gonna answer my own question. After a closer look at the assembly manual. The 6cyl. and small block motors did not have the seperate reservoir on the power steering. The 396 motors did have the reservoir. They did it because the alt. was right above the PS pump and there was no room to fill it. So they ran a hose to the remote reservoir... Bill

because of the location of the steering box relative to the engine, the pump had to be up higher... On BB with the short WaterPump, this meant the alt was right above the PS pump... So ALL A-body, BB, SWP use the remote reservoir (in stock form)...
