That is scary, I have a 96 Tahoe and a 2002 1500HD. If it was me, I would get in touch with USDOT, they want to know about this kind of stuff in case they need to issue a recall.

I have seen this literally hundreds of time over the last few years, but never saw one spark. GM's feeling is that there is not enough oxygen to feed a fire. I have never heard of one causing any problem other that the pump going out. Caprice/Impala SS cars do this as do many others, can't say about other makes than GM.

i work for a GM dealership and can say that atleast 8 out of 10 fuel sending units i replace is due to this problem. mainly C\K trucks. also in the old B-Body. have never seen one spark though. never heard of one causing a fire.

Off the subject but the same kind of problem is static electricity when fueling up.
I saw a local news clip of a guy who upon fueling up actually caught on fire because of the static. Very dramatic and frightning video. It could have been a lot worse.

I've got a 98 1/2 ton ext. cab and the fuel pump has made a noise ever since it was brand new, almost annoying, but the truck has over 136,000 on it and it still works great...I also have an issue with static electricity, everytime I get out of the truck I got shocked, what could be causing this? Maybe I need to get one of those straps that drag the ground to alleviate this problem? What about it you GM techs??? thanks.
