Hello,

I just registered on this web site to ask all of you experts out there for some advice/feedback on my 69 Chevelle. I saw the posting below where someone wanted to know what their car was worth and I am not using this post as a cheesey way to try and sell my car. I plan to keep the car but I need some expert advice that I have not been able to find anywhere else on the web. This site seems to be one of the best places for Chevelle information so here goes. Any feedback is appreciated.

My car is a matching #’s 1969 Chevelle SS Deluxe 396 4 -speed (74K miles) with a lot of rare options from what I have been told. The car has PS, PB, PW, air conditioning (factory tinted windows), 373 posi rear, 4 speed M22 Rock Crusher w/ reverse lockout, fiber optic blinker package, tilt steering w/ rosewood steering wheel, AM/FM blue light special radio w/ stock amplifier and 4 speakers, speedometer package, astro ventilation, over the shoulder seat belts, vanity mirror, tachometer, and chambered exhaust. I can post pics if anyone wants to see it.

I bought the car from the second owner who said the car is originally from Arizona. I have looked behind the seats for the broadcast sheet but I have not found it. I still have not looked on top of the gas tank yet. I do not have protecto-plate either. Everyone that has seen the car at local shows this summer say the options like the steering wheel, radio, fiber optic signals and chambered factory exhaust are very rare and many people have not seen a car as loaded as mine before. For the heck of it I put in a stock class at a show and placed third with some steep competition so I think this car may be special and worth restoring.

So I would like to know if these options are indeed rare and has anyone seen a car like mine. Also if you you have an idea of it’s value and/or rarity (e.g. production numbers) please let me know. Again I am considering a restoration and I would like to know what people think of this car.

Thanks,

MikeOB

Detailed pictures would be very helpful. A quality restoration will only help. It won't hurt. I would stick to a plan that calls for bringing it back to like new condition, and I'd resist the urge to do things like cutting up the dash or installing aftermarket bucket seats.

It appears that not all of these options were available on the 300 Deluxe. RPO - U14 Instrumentation, Special: Clock, Tach, Ammeter, Temp and Oil Pres guages was available on V8 Malibu Coupes or Convertible Only. Ref: 69' Features & Specification Manual. All other options listed would seem to be available on the 300 Deluxe Model. As mentioned this could be a Malibu.
Love to see pics as well. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Sounds like a nice car. It would really be interesting if you could find the build sheet. I have a 69 Malibu with just as many options and had always wondered if it was a factory stock. I dropped the gas tank one day to replace it (had a big dent) and there it was. Not in the greatest condition, but all options on the car were on the build sheet.

I never understood why the original owner didn't get the SS package since he ordered just about everything else. But with a stock 350/300 hp, it does get around quite nicely. I had the car repainted and I fixed up all the little imperfections and have a great cruiser with all the creature comforts Chevy offered that year.

I agree with the previous post, if you restore it, keep it stock and it will be worth a nice buck, even if you don't have the build sheet. From your description, it sounds like many of the options are original to the car. Not sure though if a 300 deluxe model would have been available with all that.

Post some pictures if you get a chance.

Very interesting car Mike, hard to imagine somebody choosing all those options and not opting for the Malibu. One source I have indicates a guesstimate of about 1,789 300 Deluxe two door hardtop SS's produced in 1969, of which 1,239 are estimated to be of the 325 HP variety. I know of at least three such cars on this board alone.

I have a lot of "resource" material for 69 Chevelle's on my website if you care to check them out. Get some pics up when you get a chance.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. I have pasted in a link below for pictures of my car (shutterfly.com). My VIN starts with 13637 so I guess I have an SS Malibu and not a 300 Deluxe--sorry I should have read up on some background information before posting, but thanks to everyone for helping.

Anyway, I think I have alot of factory options (including power windows too) on the car and I would like to know if; A. is this a car with more options than what is usually out there (e.g. is this car unusual? and B. if so, how much does this contribute or add to the price of the car.

Thnaks,

MikeOB

Certainly makes a lot more sense this car is a Malibu rather than a 300 Deluxe.

There would be a lot of cars out there with options like you have, but maybe not all of them together. It probably would be worth more than a stripped down car as well. It's all relative to what the purchaser is looking for.

Cortez Silver is one of my favorite colors as well http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif. Looks like a very nice car.

FRom the pictures, it sure doesn't lok like it needs a resto! If at all possible, I'd leave it as original as possible. But that's just my opinion. They are only original once.

Mike,
A great looking car! Cortez Silver is my favorite... Check out my pics.
I noticed a rear mount antenna... This antenna option was for AM Radio only. You mentioned an AM/FM Stereo. Which one of these is not original? Doesn't really matter. I also have a AM/FM Stereo and liked the looks of the rear mount antenna so much that I added it during my resto. (Added the radio too). My car was not very well optioned at all, just the basic GO FAST parts! Lots of upgrades during the resto though.
Your car is very nicely optioned with great looks. Value definitly up there.

The GM Restoration Kit I have (revised February, 1969) shows the U14 available with the 13427/37 (300 Deluxe 2-dr coupe/sport coupe) as well as the 13637/67/80 (Malibu 2-dr sport coupe/convertible/El Camino). Maybe it was offered then it was pulled - or offered after February. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/confused.gif Some of the options listed I don't show as avaialble on the 300 Deluxe (coupe or sport coupe) such as power windows.

No matter, it's a 136 car anyway - and a dang nice one at that. I agree with others here, if it's this nice to begin with avoid the temptation to ~modernize~ or ~personalize~ it unless it's something that can be swapped back easily like wheels/tires. Keep it as a survivor and freshen up only things that aren't apparent such as suspension and/or brake pieces for safety.

Now that I found out this is not a 300 deluxe but a Malibu, does that mean it is not worth as much as a 300 deluxe or is it worth more because of the option package? Any info would be appreciated. I plan to redo the paint to mint condition but keep everything else original. What I want to find out is the value of the car if I were to sell it.
Thanks,
Mike
