And I take it, that is not the optional guage package?
Does anyone have a good picture of each of the gauge sets available, or a link with pics?
Thanks,
Mike

Rich-L79 Dec 27th, 02, 12:57 PM Yes, bucket seats and a console were both separate options. They were not included in the SS396 package.
Don_Lightfoot Dec 27th, 02, 3:24 PM Mike, you are right, those are not the factory gauges under the dash. The optional gauge package would have included the same look as this dash, but there would have been four small gauges around the outside of the right hand large pod with a tach in the center of that pod. The clock would be in the center small pod.

plain 69 Dec 27th, 02, 9:39 PM Your right on both subjects. The column shifter is standard along with the standard dash pods. I do know that is a common setup that is installed on 69 cars with no factory guages. Looks like some old Stewart Warner guages. Looks like a factory air conditioned car as well.

RINGER Dec 27th, 02, 11:31 PM Thanks for the info. Here is a link to the whole series of pics on the car.

I think you have to copy/paste the link.
This gentleman has it for sale. It appears (to me at least) to be a pretty nice ride. He is currently asking 27,900.
Is that grill a reproduction? I read a thread on here the other day talking about some repro grill having silver edges where they shouldnt. Is that the case here, or can it be told from the pics?
Don_Lightfoot Dec 28th, 02, 1:27 PM Mike, the link worked just fine.
This car has what appears to be a very nice paint job and the color is dynamite. Here are just a few things I noticed, but please don't take this as a knock against the car. It really comes down to what you want out of the car and whether stock or modified is where your interests are. I've done and had both in the past so it really doesn't matter to me.
- The rad support is painted body color which, from my opinion, looks very awkward from the front view.
- Firewall is body color.
- Underside of hood is body color.
- The underbody is body color as well.
- Exhaust does not exit correctly for a 69 SS.
- Obviously lots of engine modifications and add-ons.
- It appears the grill does have 'silver' at the forefront of each slot/horizontal edge. True SS's were not like this.
For me, about the only things that bug me on this are the rad support and firewall being body color. Underside of hood and underbody color is fine with me.
What we don't know is the following:
- What is the HP of the engine?
- Is it the original engine?
- Mileage?
- Engine buildup specs?
This is a sharp looking car that I think you could be proud of. However, unless it is an L78 car I don't think it's worth the $27,900. If you were inclined to return this car to "stock" condition you are looking at some major bread. Furthermore, as nice as it appears, I would like to see a little better overall detail on the car for this kind of money.
Just my $.02 worth.

RINGER Dec 28th, 02, 3:50 PM Don,
Thanks for that great reply!
Again, I am not ready to purchase, but I thought it might be helpful to post a car I had seen and get someone else's quick assessment on it to compare to mine.
I thought the car was a pretty good resto-rod (as much as you can tell from pics), and I done pretty well at picking a lot of stuff out.
The car is listed with classic car trader and is said to have a 540 hp 396 (I like that!)
Here is the listing:
