Can you also post the year of the car, what you believe it to be and the model number (found on the cowl tag)?

No way to tell from VIN. What we can:
1 -Chevrolet
D -Chevelle Malibu V-8
67 -Convertible
H -350 ci 2 barrel 165 hp
2 - 1972 (Year)
K -Leeds (Assembly Plant)
617625 - Sequence #

To prove that is an SS, you need documentation like a build sheet

By the sound of the two barrel deal i would say it is not an ss. The build sheet can be located in any number of places, on top of the gas tank, under/in the seat.... use the search function you will find plenty of information.
Best of luck,

Jim-

You don't get a buildsheet...you find it! The assembly workers placed these sheets of paper in the car while being assembled. It will list the various parts & pieces used to assemble. Among them will be RPO's like LS6, M22, F41 for example, that will indicate if it was a Super Sport package. A full list of these RPO codes is in any Chevrolet Chevelle book. These build sheets can be found in the most common spots (assuming they haven't been destroyed or removed already) like on top of your gas tank, glued to the backside of your door panels, behind kick panels, under the seats between springs & foam, behind the seatback plastic shell, behind rear seat back, under rear seat cushion, and above your headliner. Stories have been told about assembly line workers that used to purposely put multiple sheets in several locations in a few cars. I haven't been so lucky as to find my sheet on my '72 SS (verified via the 5th digit of my vin, and discussion with original owner) due to multiple owners and the overall condition when I bought it. Good luck finding it...let us know if you do.

It is possible it's a SS. In '72 the SS option could be had with a 350-2 engine as well as the 350-4, 402 and 454. Without supporting documentation the ONLY way to verify a '72 SS is to have the letter "W" in the VIN. "W" indicates a 454 and the 454 could only be had with the SS option.

KingKong- I tryed to see by your profile sheet if you may have possibly had a canadian built car but there was no info on your sheet. If by chance you do have a canadian chevelle, you will be able to contact General Motors Canada ( Vehicle Vintage Services) and they can, for a small fee supply you with every tidbit of info to document your Canadian Made Chevelle!
A fellow named George Zapora is the man to talk with there.(905)644-4060 or toll free in Canada at 888-467-6853 .GM has kept complete documentation on their cars for several decades now and it sure helps put an end up here to the possible CLONE car scams that I see being sold for outrages prices on ebay at times! I found my build sheet behind the drivers seat back plastic cover in the springs. Good Luck!
