With the little bit of Christmas cash and a nice refund check from signing my new mortgage I now have enough in savings to buy air conditioning for my '69 Chevy pickup. I use it to tow the Chevelle and it really sucks to drive all day in the middle of summer with just 260 or 270 air conditioning.

I've looked at Vintage Air set ups and a local dealer can get me everything I need for a decent price, about $1300 (all a/c parts, dash outlet vents, pulleys and brackets) for a kit designed for my particular vehicle.

BUT, are there any other brands out there that are well made, install properly and are complete for the same or less money? Due to cost of installation I'll be doing the work myself. I REALLY don't want to chase down part after part so I want a kit that includes everything I need in one set up.

Additionally, has anyone done such an install in a 67-72 Chevy PU? Any particular problems I should be aware of?

TIA.

Hi Rich
I installed a vintage air in my 71 blazer. It was an a/c truck to start with. I like the kit it was 100% complete bolt in. It was nice not to have hunt or fab parts for the install. The only thing I don't like is the defrost is not a 100%, half goes to the floor and in Oregon sometimes you need 100% defrost. The only other system I would check into would be Air-tique, phone 817-641-6933,
and see if thay have a 100% bolt in kit. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me. O-yes no more heater or a/c box in the engine compartment, makes it easy to remove thr back spark plug on the passager side of the motor.

Rich,
I have an almost complete aftermarket air system that I took out of my 86 Chev truck a few years ago when I went through the motor. I just didn't use it up here. The condensor was stolen at a swap meet and a couple of the lines had been cut taking it out but other than that, the unit is complete and worked well when I took it out. I have had $100 on the whole shootin' match at the swap meets with little success. Not just a big mover in these parts of the country. Interested?

I do not have any experience with their kits but www.oldairproducts.com (http://www.oldairproducts.com) has them for a 68 pick-up.
