: Opinions please
Gary_E Dec 25th, 02, 6:38 PM I know this is supposed to be in the suspensions and brakes area, but I received no responses there, and I am ready to do the needed work now.
I am finishing up my 73 chevelle. Took out the original 350/145hp 2bbl, th350, w/2.73 gears. Replaced it all with a 400, built to 420hp 450ft lbs, with a th700r4, and 3.42 gears posi....
Anyway this is a street machine and I need advice as to what is necessary to do to the suspension to obtain the best overall performance for the street. As you can see I've already spent some serious cash sofar, and there is no sense in putting in the engine and drive train if the original equipment suspension won't perform up to the standards that I expect from the drive train.
I've rebuilt the original brake system, and installed kyb shocks. Using 255/60/15's all the way around. I am open to any/all suggestions. tia
rollin_92gt Dec 25th, 02, 6:59 PM Sounds great, just don't take it to Coastal Plains near Jacksonville NC. You won't get any traction out of that car.
Suspension parts are hard to decide on unless you know of someone that has a certain set-up. Just ask around the local track and fellow car buffs. I would start with a drive-shaft loop and some traction bars.

Glenn1018 Dec 25th, 02, 7:12 PM Try www.malibuperformance.com (http://www.malibuperformance.com) (used to be H-O Engineering).
They have 1 3/8" front and rear sawy bars, stiffer springs which also lower the car, and a SB-55 spindle conversion if you're interested in front disc brakes.
I'm very happy with their stuff.
daveseitz Dec 25th, 02, 8:08 PM Disc Brakes are the #1 add on, second should be sway and boxed arms.

That looks like a dead link.
All I get is a DNS error message. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif

Glenn1018 Dec 25th, 02, 11:07 PM Try www.hoenterprises.com (http://www.hoenterprises.com) (I just checked it)
Then go to Services, then Products.
Sorry for the confusion...maybe they're H-O again. Ken Crocie is still there and has been involved from the beginning.
MonteMan454 Dec 26th, 02, 2:47 AM I would start by ordering a PST or PSC total suspension kit. This will give you everything you'll need. I would use polyurethane due to increased handling and the bushings will tend to last longer.
For springs either stock keeping in mind your spring rate or aftermarket if you have the bucks.
You could go larger front sway bar and box your rear lowers and add a rear sway bar. You could also use some of the premade kit available from hotchkiss etc.
KYB makes some good handling shocks.
From your requirements it seems like you want corner carving.
Hope this helps.
67shovel Dec 26th, 02, 9:36 AM I would consider the PST rear control arms also. Stronger than the stock stuff.
plain 69 Dec 26th, 02, 11:07 AM I don't know for sure but I would say that a 73 Chevelle would have disk brakes standard. Now if you can't find a rear sway bar setup from the aftermarket maybe hit some junkyards for some 73-77 442, S-3, Pontiac Grand Am's suspension parts or in the local paper. Some of these bread and butter Olds Cutlasses, Buicks, Pontiacs had rear sway bars and bigger front sway bars with the towing packages and upgrades suspension packages that were offered in the day.
