My buddy has a 1967 Malibu with a straight-6 three-on-the-tree, AC/PS/PB all original. We are going to put in a big-block and keep the AC/PS/PB. Will the AC box clear the big-block, or did the big-block cars have a different AC box? Thanks.

air box is the same, no problem. The valve cover might be close to the power brake booster though. Tall ones may hit. factory had a 'sliced off' end for clearance.

Thanks Al. That's what I figured, but the question came up - and he didn't get his motor yet - so I figured I better consult with my fellow TC'ers http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Hobart,

There is a different inside half of the suitcase for BB cars, has a recess in it for more room. this can also be found routinely on Tempests, Cutlasses, Skylarks. Might be worth your while.

Tom (or was this only on Camaro/Firebird? I'm getting old...)

I created a monster with my combo.......roller everything, so I had to use tall covers, and then try to squeeze them between the brake booster and A/C suitcase. I went through four set-ups, before I found one to work. (The clearenced-end originals weren't tall enough)

The perfect design was an after-market, cheap chrome set, that isn't square shaped, but rather is tall on the side next to the intake, and slopes down to the exhaust side. They cleared everything great!

Be prepared to spend $100 + for big block A/C compressor mounts. And Ground Up had a $400 kit for the power steering pump, brackets, remote reservoir, pulleys and hoses. The kit is easier than trying to collect the parts needed and probably not much more money.
