Would a 454 from a 1-ton truck be a short deck block if it was orginal. Not sure of model, I seen it listed in a clasified add.

The two I've had from 1 tons were short decks. As far as I know, the tall decks were in heavier trucks only, but I'm not positive. One of mine was from an 89 and I'm unsure of the other.

If it is a 454 it will be a short deck.. Only 366ci and tall deck 427s had the tall deck. Take a look at the water pump, it will be huge and the intake will have 2 thermostats (I think they all had 2?) It will also have TRUCK on the engine rather than PASS Good luck and enjoy

Only believe about half of what you see in most "for sale" ads

get the casting numbers and post back here (http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/forum/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Tag+Team&number=6&DaysPrune=1&LastLogin=)

I agree Dean, as I am getting older I am trying to make educated purchases with the facts to get A handle on the impulse buying feeling. Just trying to decide weather I want to drive 3 hours to take a look with cash in hand when I feel I should be able to find something closer to home.

Thanks Nick

It most likely is a 454. It is true that 427 and 366 were the only tall decks. I have never seen a 366 or 427 in a pick-up. but you should still get the cast no.s
