: 67 Chevelle console seat belt clips
rusted11 Jan 23rd, 02, 5:04 PM Does anyone know where to buy the repro seat belt clips that bolt to the console in a 67 Chevelle?
I've checked Ground Up, Danchuck, Year One, The Paddock, C.A.R.S.inc, and Harmons.
Any direction would be appreciated.
Thanks

Freddy Mercado Jan 23rd, 02, 5:08 PM I would also like to ad something to this question. Did all 67 Chevelle SS with the consoles have those seat belt clips??? My console does not have them...... Any help please.

rb6667 Jan 23rd, 02, 6:10 PM Hey Freddy, I too have a console in a 67SS that does not have the seat belt clips on the console. However, I had one in the past that did. It's anybody's guess as to why some had them, and some did not. I remember those things being available several years ago. I beleive it was in the year one catalog, and was a repo item. It might be worth a try to call them toll free and see if they still have the mfg. on file. Ask for their R&D staff. I have found quite a few things like this. Hope this helps.

66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Jan 23rd, 02, 8:27 PM You guys with 67's and consoles that do not have the clips...first, are you positive you have the original console in the car? could someone, over the years, changed consoles, and used a 66 version? second, are your cars early or Late cars?
Many times, things like this, subtle changes...happened as mid year changes...a good example is the rubber boot that goes in the console of a 66...there are two different upper boots, and two diffrent lower boots, some cars only got an upper boot while others got both...
66 consoles did not get the clips, but otherwise look just like the 67 consoles.

Mystery
My car can never be a concourse restoration so, I'm not trying to find the clips for correctness. I'm just trying to get the belts off the floor.
However, I am always interested in hearing what is, or is not, correct.

Well, I am glad you are still interested in correctness....too many guys just assume that an answer like I gave, is because I expect everyone to have concourse resto., that is the furthest from the truth....I could care less what people do with their cars, but I do think it's important that we try and find an answer to these s/w trivial questions that never seem to get resolved.
We need more guys to step forward and compare what they have, what they KNOW to be original, with others who have the same. That way we can try and see if any commonality exists between them. Dale's point was a good example...
Anyway, off my box...and glad you are willing to still have an interest in correctness, despite not wanting it yourself. Wish more could have such an open mind.

1BadRat Jan 24th, 02, 4:05 PM Maybe Dale hit the nail on the head. But I'm not sure what the deluxe seat belts are compared to the "non-deluxe." Could it be SS vs. non-SS? I have two consoles, both out of SS's and they have the clips. Don't know that I've ever seen one without the clips. Of course I wasn't really looking.

RickinNC Jan 24th, 02, 5:29 PM When I ordered my 67 it did not have seat belt clips on the console. It was delivered in Nov. of 1966.

rb6667 Jan 24th, 02, 6:06 PM A footnote to my earlier post, I have an early 67 console that I beleive to be original. It came in a car so early, that it had the 66 style chrome coat hook. Very low sequence number, built in September of 66. This console has the seat belt clips on it. Clock in the console has a June 66 mfg date. Go figure........
Elree Colby Jan 24th, 02, 7:54 PM I got my console from Skip Cain. I know it came out of an SS because I tried to get the SS hood from the same car. It doesn’t have the clips. I don’t know what seat belts the donor car had.
RickinNC and rb6667. Do either of your cars have deluxe belts?

As a follow up, mine was built the third week of June at Atlanta, so I suppose it was a very late 67 model.

Mark:
The deluxe seat belt have the brushed steel buckle with the CARRIAGE on them, the standard belts were just your basic Hard plastic type deal...
You guys keep comparing notes like this and before you know it....you will be spending $100 on the "correct" distrib. Cap for your car http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif oh, sorry, that was me http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

RickinNC Jan 25th, 02, 5:16 AM The seatbelts in the Chevelle I now have are the standard type without the clips. My original 67, well, I'm having a senior moment about them. But I only used them at the drag strip at the time so it isn't too clear. It wasn't a go fast item that you would want to spend extra money on. I was overseas at the time so I didn't have a list of options to choose from, just the brochure.
rb6667 Jan 25th, 02, 6:24 AM Elree, My seat belts are standard, not deluxe. Both consoles I mention are automatic consoles, maybe that has something to do with it.
1BadRat Jan 25th, 02, 7:08 AM Just to clarify: Of the two consoles I have, both are from an SS with 4-speed and both have the clips.
The console that is actually in my 67 is the original, positive about that. I have the plastic buckles, so I assume these are the standard seat belts. The build date for this car is March, 1967, which makes it what, mid/late 67?
I've been thinking about this one and from what I've seen it appears to be related to production dates. I haven't seen a 67 built earlier than spring of 67 that had them.
If someone has an earlier built 67 with the clips (if console is orig as Mike says) please post here.
interesting topic.

rb6667 Jan 25th, 02, 6:06 PM Al, As mentioned in my earlier post, I have a very early 67ss. This car has a very low sequence number, was mfg. in Sept of 66. Several parts on the car, Chrome coat hooks, and the color of GM decals on the doors, are correct for a 66, but not a 67. This car had the beautiful color of Granada Gold, ugh!! and there with it was a Granada Gold console with seat belt clips. I bought the car in 1980 and I beleive it to be original. Nothing had been changed that I could tell. But since I had not owned since new, a later console could have been installed, or maybe the seat belt clips were added. This is a true mystery, sounds like a good Bench Racing topic in the years to come. rb6667
