funny Mike. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

They are noisy, but people still run them. Flowmasters are noisy too, people still run them.

I decided against the gear driven for my street car based on what I read here on the TC board.

I have never heard any problems form users other than the decibal factor.

haha..my frend put one in his 68 truck witha 350. i thought it was kinda cool at first like it sounded like a supercharger..but it really doesnt. it sounds dumb, and i have now decided the only gear drive i would get is a quiet one. but i think my timing chain is working just fine.

They put harmonics back in the motor and can accually hurt overall engine life. Go to a track to which any serious fast cars run. You will see that if they don't run a good quality chain they run a belt drive.
Save you money for something that will help you run faster.

gear drives and flowmasters both make noise. Flow masters make horse power over stock. That can be clearly demonstrated. I am not so sure about gear drives.

Get the gear drive, a big solid-lift cam and a Detroit Locker. That way your car will make all sorts of strange noises and you can say "It's supposed to do that." Get one of those big aluminum flex fans too. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/eek.gif
Seriously, I used to run one and kind of liked it but it was a waste of cash. Any pro will tell you to go with a good double roller.

I hear ya on the flex fan.
I am replacing mine cause I can't hear
the exaust over the fan.
Sounds like a big turbine winding up.

I run one, only because it was free and I wasn't complaining. Its not "that bad" its preference. If you like the noise you will love it if you don't like it you will hate it. It personally doesn't bother me too much, I mean my cam and exhuast are so loud I can barely hear the thing anyways. Some people hate flowmasters other swear by them. If you like noise you will like the gear drive. If it wasn't given to me for free I don't think I would have bought one.

Speaking of flex fans fella's, I want to replace Mine with a clutch fan. Anyone got a part number for one that would fit my 69 402? Or even what kind of used one to look for would be appreciated.
