My 67 Malibu has a Ps problem. It has stock power steering pump. When I am parking or making a tight turn at idle the power assist will go away (not totally but will cut in and out) and become stiff to turn. The belts are new and do not slip and the fluid level is full. Is the pump shot? don't want to take chances because it has a fresh Ps box.

It sounds like your belt is slipping even though you don't hear a squeal. After a new belt has run for a short time it should be retightened. This is easy to do. If this doesn't fix it look for a problem in the pump, the bypass valve or restriction in one of the hoses.
