How close should the "clutch Z bar" come to the "oil-sensor" sending unit?

does it touch? if the answer is yes than it's to close. If clearence is a problem you can plumb it out using standard brass fittings that can be bought at just about any hardware store, When I installed an electrical sending unit on mine, I also wanted to keep the original idiot light sender too. I went to NAPA auto parts and bought a single brass fitting that screwed into the block that allowed me to put the original sender in and my new electrical sender screwed in at a 45deg angle and sets just above the Zbar.
