Hi, I am planning on rebuilding the powerglide from my '69 307 convertible. I was wondering if anyone had experience with this tranny that could share some helpful hints and do's/dont's.
Also, the 307 has been replaced by a 350. Don't know if that matters, though.
thanks.

P.S. I have a kit I purchased from the internet. it has replacement steels, friction plates gaskets and filter. thanks.

since you arent keeping the car original, why not switch to a TH350? Bolt in swap for the glide and 3 gears are better than 2.

Better yet, bolt a 200-4r and you have 3 plus overdrive. I love mine.

If you choose this direction, make sure you get your tranny from a reputable place that is close by. It will take some fine tuning to get it right. I am lucky to be close to the real Art Carr.

I would be happy to help talk you through your trans. It does not require much for special tools, just some patience and care! If you are interested, shoot me an e-mail and let me know. I have done 'Glides for over 25 yrs myself. If you want to call me, check my site for the best times to reach me as I have a 'real' job during the days, lol.

I love them! I used PGs out of the low HP cars, they have a deeper low gear, only a slight difference but worth the effort. Some of the early units use a air-cooled bellhousing, big holes cut in the thing on both sides.

With the parts that are out there today they are damn near bullet proof. You do need a combo that can deal with the big gear drop on the 1 to 2 change and a gear in the back.

I stood the 68 camaro on the rear bumper at Bowling Green in 1977 using a PG and a trans break graemlins/thumbsup.gif 355 with a PG and a 5.86 gear with a ATI 8 inch that flashed about 5000.

What's even more fun is letting go of the button with a 1053 hp 458" BB, a 7" converter that flashed to 8100, and a 4.86 gear in a dragster. Oh, and no wheelie bar, lol. The end result can be seen on the 'photos' page of my site, scroll down about 4 pictures...yes, we did build a wheelie bar after that weekend!

On a side note, should I decide in the future to upgrade to a th350, what would be the best donor cars to look for in a junkyard ? or where would be the best place to find one without paying 350 plus s/h on ebay? thanks.
