Have finally found an M-22 trans made july 1969. It has the 10 spline imput and turbo 350 output. Was just wondering if there is anyway of telling what it originally came in by vin# OR other codes stamped on trans case????? It has been sitting since the late 70's got it with a bunch of stuff an old drag racer had it was one of his spare's.

Get all the numbers you can find on it and post them in "Tag Team" thats where all the numbers gurus are and will probably get good results there.

Don't all M22's have TH400 output shafts ? I believe so.????

How many grooves on the input shaft ? Should be none ! 1 groove for the M21 and 2 grooves for the M20.

Only 1970 and later M22's had 26-spline input and 32-spline output shafts. The rings around the input shaft are a good indicator IF the input gear is original. Many aftermarket replacement input gears had no grooves regardless of whether they were for an M20, M21 or M22. And yes, the partial VIN will tell you what the original application was.

Dave is correct, the M-22 DID NOT get the 26spline input until the 70 model year (sometime after 70 production). The first time the M-22 was "officially" available was in the 66 model year-----------------10spline input and 27spline tailshaft. BUT, there has been some documentation surface in the past few years which indicates that about 20 or so 65 Vettes with the 396 got an M-22. There is one 65 Vette owner who has a well documented 396/M-22 car and the tranny has the same features as the 66-69 M-22s.
I have never clearly understood why, but for some reason, years ago, people began to believe that if a Muncie had the 26 spline input and bigger 32 spline tailshaft, it was an M-22. MOST Muncies with the 26spline input and bigger tailshaft are the common M-20/M-21 variety for 71-74.

The numbers of the M-22 are P9K07C then below them on pass side rear of main case are CTO then next to them 36693. Also have a 69 M-21 that has P9P13 on pass side rear of main case, no A,B, or C and then on drivers side back of main case has 39M164834..........THANX AGAIN

supersport, P9K07C is the build date of that trans
P= Muncie
9= Model year--1969
K= month-------July
07= day--------7th
C= M-22
CTO 36693= Over the counter transmission, complete assembly
This tranamission was bought in a box, never in stalled at the factory.
P9P13 is a muncie built Sept. 13th 1968 for an early 1969 model year car
39M164834 is the VIN of the car this trans was put in at the factory
3= Olds
9= model year
M= assembly plant
164834= sequential VIN
The P9P13 doesn't have an A-B-C ratio code because that started a couple months later
