thinking about a dennys nitrous ready DS, what u joint should i go with - may put a mild blower on my 454 next year ;)

Is there any downside to a larger u joint?

Weight maybe???

Since the downside to breaking a U-joint is pretty severe, destroying floor pans or pole vaulting the rear of the car, I don't think there is a such thing as overkill.

Keep in mind you'll need a new pinion in the rear, though.

Yeah, the 12 bolts getting built up soon (4.10's i think), so the pinion is gonna be changed. If i cant find a 1350 yoke from a truck im gonna get one from denny's.

Hi I just installed a set of the new Spicer 199 greaseless u-joints the guy at the driveshaft shop said they were stronger than the 1350's and not really needed for my BB street car, but I think stronger is better as far as u-joints go. Dave

Nothing wrong with 1350. Im running 1330 ( solids) from Dennys with a 4 speed and slicks in one car. I think the design of the u joint( solid vs greasable) has more of an influence than the seires.

I would go so far as to say improper set up ( pinion angles etc) destroys more u joint than the power going threw them.

roger69- what brand u-joints do you use on your stick car? And where did you get them and how much? smile.gif

Talk to Denny's. They will thoroughly explain what you need after understanding your setup/use. In my case, they said 1350's were not necessary ( no slicks, no high rpm clutch dumps ). I found them to be quite helpful.

Overkill, sure, but good overkill. When you see a Denny's shaft, even the HD one I run and those tiny 1310's on it, it makes you wonder.

All you guys running stock joints, do what Denny does, run GREASELESS joints. Much stronger. He has a few uj's with grease fittings in his shop, you KNOW where they broke!

since its only a bit more to go large, i think i'll do it - future plans include a manual and maybee slicks
