: Hole in firewall for Z-Bar?

I am about ready to cut the hole for my Z-bar to go through the firewall (it attaches to the clutch pedal and the bellcrank. I am converting from auto to standard just to clarify. My question is, there is a round/squarish piece of pad that is precut on the wall. Is this the hole for the bar? I think it would line up but I'm not for sure. Also how big should I make the hole since the bar is less than 1 in. in diameter.

The bell crank mounts up to the engine on the stud that is screwed into the block (can I get this stud at the local parts store?) The other side mounts to the frame with 2 self tapping bolts. Can someone send me a pic or show me a pic of where these two bolts are supposed to go? OR an accurate description? Sorry this is so long but Thanks for the help!

What year are you working on? I know the 70-72 cars already have the cutout for the clutch pedal rod.

Here's my Z-bar bracket mount installed:

Just the bolts in place:

Pic of the firewall with clutch rod in place (roughly, my whole interior is apart so it's just kinda sitting there):

Here's the original hole in the firewall:

Thanks again for the pic's they really helped out! I haven't cut the hole for the Z-Bar yet but I feel much more confident doing it now. But now I am concluding my parts search to do the swap and I am looking to find out where I can find the Ball Stud that screws into the block of the engine (What the bellcrank slips into) I went to the local auto parts store and they didn't have it. Is this piece universal? Or does anyone know where I can get it locally? Thanks

You still have to drill the hole in the steering column support plate. I used a 1.25 inch hole saw and everything fit great. Drilling the hole is a bear though, that plate is very thick, a cheap universal hole saw wont do it. I burned one up in a hurry.

Dave,
When cutting the hole for the Z-Bar do I just use the Boot Retainer as a template and cut out the inside space? And the retainer uses the sheet metal screws that are already being used? Thanks

.....Trying to remember....I think my steering column plate had kind of a cut-out scribed into the insulation. If yours doesn't have that to go by, I'd probably do what you suggested and trace a circle using the boot.

I re-used the sheetmetal screws.
