I was having a chat with a buddy of mine the other day and the topic of tranny`s came up but we couldnt say wether the M-22 Rockcrusher is stronger than a Tremec TKO and or a Richmond 5-speed or 6-speed,anyone care to share?
Thanks

In a word, no, the M-22 is not stronger than those trannies. You can buy stronger Muncie cases (the Super Case) and new gears that might get you close, but I think for a car that has any kind of decent traction, the Richmond or the Tremec is the only sure bet this side of a Jerico.

Bob Hanlon of Hanlon Motorsports runs a Tremec TKO in his 83 Mustang GT that runs 9.15 @ 152.40 MPH. He has no modifications other than his own design "pro shifted" style shift hubs, removal of 5th gear to reduce reciprocating weight of the box and a steel girdle to eliminate case spread at the front input bearing (common problem on any aluminum cased gear box).
I know of plenty of Mustang guys that run well into the 10's with their street cars that have dynoed at well over 600 horses.
I dont think you will see any 3400+ pound car running anytype of Muncie that fast and having it last.

Yes but the only other problem we have with our Big Block cars would be the car weight and the torque the motor puts out.

Talked with Brian at S-K Speed out of New York recently (who built my transmission).
He specializes in building manual tranny's for racing and he told me that the "strongest" OEM type transmission for a street/strip GM car is a re-worked Super T-10 with a nodular iron case and mid-bearing plate along with 9310 Nickel gears. (this is how I have my tranny setup) He tells me that it will handle well over 600lb/ft of torque with no problem. He has guys using them behind big blocks (drag racing) and spraying them out of the hole.
To get anything stronger he says you have to go to a racing transmission like a Jerico or G-Force.

I think 71454Chevelle mentioned the nodular iron case Super T-10 because your topic included the M-22 which is a four speed.
