: 200R4 tv cable adjustment

I need help! I installed a TCI 200R4 into my 67 Chevelle, replacing the powerglide. At TCI tech lines recommendations, I also bought and installed the TCI: Holley carb bracket for the tv cable, the geometry corrector, and TCI tv cable.
These were installed trying to correct the problems. I was orginally using a cable that was already on the tranny. (I bought the tranny package from a friend).
I am guessing that I have something hooked up wrong on the carb. At first the tranny shifted thru the grears one right after another, as TCI calls it "stacked". I adjusted the cable and it then spread the shifts out, but shifted very hard, and wouldn't shift into 4th till 65 mph.

With the new TCI tv cable, it shifts into the gears quicker but not as quickly as with the old cable. It does shift into 4th at about 40 mph. But is surges. I have made many calls to the TCI tech line, great guys, but so far it's been, "buy this, buy that". The TCI paper work talks about a 78 degree pull at wot.

I have photos if someone can tell me how to post them. Or I xould email the photos, if someone could look at them to offer help.

HELP!

Well, I'm doing a 200 4R swap into my '65 today (lunch break right now). Here's what I know:
1) Trans must have the "green" spring inside the trans at the throttle valve.
2) 78 degrees is the standard Holley throttle rotation.
3) The total cable travel from WOT down to idle position should be exactly 1.610" long.
4) You cannot mount brackets/cable mount/linkage in any way that causes sideways motion - you want the cable must go as nearly straight back and forth.

Oh yeah, to add to my fun: no one makes any of this bracketry for a Dominator like I have - so I've had to fab a little (although I did crib the majority of my T.V. cable setup from a Bowtie Overdrivers kit for the similar King Demon carb.

Oh yeah, it is ABSOLUTELY necessary to do a pressure test. This is a standard trans shop diagnostic, a long hose with a guage that can either be taped to your windshield, or routed in through an open window. I believe you should see at least 150 psi at 1/4 throttle, towards 180 would be better, and 200+ at WOT.

Hope that helps for now - now I gotta go finish mine smile.gif

I had a stock TV cable hooked up to a carter AFB carb with no adapter and still got it to work right. Just hook up the line, then adjust very slowly [one click at a time] till you get what you want. If you do this and it isen't working, then theres somthing wrong with the transmission not the TV cable.

I have also bought and installed a TCI 200 4R. I used a GM bracket from a 200 4R car with a carb. I used a stock GM cable and the geometry corrector. I also set up my TV cable using a 300 psi gauge. The TCI transmissions come with a dyno card telling you what the pressures were in each gear at 2000 RPM. on the dyno. It took some trial and error to set up the TV, but I love my streetfighter 200 4R now, its the best trans I have owned. So far!!! LOL!
By the way here is a link to a site that has another type of geometry corrector, I bought it and haven't used it, my buddy uses one on his setup for his 700 R4 and it helped correct his shift timing.

I forgot to mention, here is a link to a site that has IMHO the best description of how to set up a TV cable. Good reading if anything!
