I just had my 350 rebuilt by a mechanic I know and trust about 4 months ago. Then, I had the flexplate replaced by another mechanic I know, but I don't necessarily like him or trust him now. Now my indicator is off by a gear(it says D when it's in neutral), I can't shift it into 1st, and it's slipping and won't even shift into 3rd! what could he have done to make the tranny act like this. Could it just be that the linkage is off? please, any suggestions will help. TIA

Send me a pile of cajun food from Emeril's and I will tell you, lol. It sounds to me like the shift linkage needs to be checked, and also while you are at it be sure the detent cable is properly set. I would bet that between the two it will be fine again. Now about that food... :D

If your trans linkage is anthing like the 350 deal in my 71, I would look there first, that is a cheesey deal with that set screw to hold that in adjustment. Had problems with that deal when we put the rat in for my son, took both of us, one under and one in to get it correct. Guess who got the under part graemlins/clonk.gif

I agree, it's the linkage. It is important to get it right, since you can fry the clutches if it is "between" gears. With the linkage disconnected, set the trans and shifter in drive. If it is correct, the linkage should fall together. Adjust as needed to get it right. I've been through this several times with my cars.

Thanks for all the input. I'll look at this weekend. Cajun food is good, but Emril deffinitely isn't the one to ask about it. He's from NYC and studied down here. And then he messes up all the dishes! graemlins/angry.gif So you'll have to come down to one of the festivals like the Crawfish Festival or the Blues Festival to get some real good eatin'.
