This is my first time posting in this section so I hope one or more of you guys can offer some suggestions.
I am building a 64 velle street/strip car that I will be using a 383 stroker in. I have the stock th350 tranny from my son's 71 velle that I want to rebuild for my car. I know that as stock it will not hold up for racing, so what parts will in need to include in the rebuild and what are the best brands?
Also, what converter would you recommend for this application?

Thanks for any help,

Gene

For a street/strip vehicle I would look to using a manual/auto valve body setup. One option is the TCI Pro Super kit which will contain likely everything you will need to do the overhaul and valve body mods, with the exception of the (optional but not a bad idea...) hardened outer sprag race. Figure on a little under $250 for kit and sprag race including shipping. For the converter can you post some specifics about the engine and rear gear please? If so then I can give you my .02 on what to use.

Thanks for the info Steve. I will be running a 383 stroker-500hp+, not sure about the rear gear-probably 411's? Would like it streetable but able to run in the 11-12 range.
Also, do you recommend a video for a home trans rebuild?
Thanks for any help,

Gene

chevelleman64, I bought a book for rebuilding my th400 and it was very useful. First time rebuilding one and it works great!

Get the "TH350 Handbook" by Ron Sessions. He covers rebuilding and mods. You'll come away with an excellent understanding of how a 350 works and how to make it stronger.

I appreciate the info and help SS427 and Pat. I'll get the book and think about doing it myself. I have a friend that said he would do it for $100.00 plus parts. He rebuilt a 700r4 for me and did a great job. So I have several options- just want to make sure I rebuild it with the right mods as to hold up for racing.

Thanks again,
