: TH350 Drain?

I have the TH350 out of my '71, since I'm getting ready to install a new motor. While it's out, I'm replacing the front and rear seals, changing the filter, and installing a new torque converter. I used a putty knife, can of Gunk, and garden hose to get the crud off the outside. I fear I may have gotten some water past the seals when scrubbing the outside of the trans. =8^(

I'd like to replace ALL of the transmission fluid, just to make sure I don't have any contamination.

What's the best way to make sure I've got all of the old stuff out?

Thanks,
mark.

Drop the pan, dump the fluid. Might as well toss a filter in it while you're in there. You could tip the trans back and forth, roll it around and let it all drain, but really, with a new converter and an "ordinary" drop-the-pan-and-fluid/filter change, you've got nothing to worry about.

Oh, yeah. Don't forget to gently blow out the trans cooler and tubes, too. You can do it with low-pressure compressed air, or let the trans pump do the work by connecting only the "outlet" or pressure side cooler tube to the trans. Let the old fluid puke out of the return side until you see clean new fluid. Then connect the return tube to the trans.

Thanx for the reassurances. I had visions of getting the new motor all buttoned up, only to find out I "hosed" the trans when cleaning it up.

Cheers,

If your going to change the seals dont forget to change the bushings too.

Bushings?
What bushings?

Explain s-l-o-w-l-y please, I've never worked on a transmission before. What parts do I need, and what is the procedure? My *ahem* Chilton's only mentioned the seals.

Thanks,
mark.
