While taking apart the trans to install a B&M shift kit, somewhere between dropping the valve body and pulling the spacer plate or gasket, two types of filters fell into the oil pan. One is a small pinched off screen with a brass fitting on the end. The other is about 1 1/2" long about the size of a small shotgun shell. It has holes in the outside casing and a wire mesh filter screen inside. the instuction for the shift kit and the Haynes manual say nothing of these filters. I don't know where they came from. Any help would be appreciated. Otherwise I will just install everything back without these items. Thanks guys....:confused

When I did my B and M shift kit on my turbo 350 the same thing happened to me. A very small screen fell out of the tranny. I called B and M techline, they told me that it is not needed for the installation so I left it out. The tranny shifts great, no problems. As far a the shotgun shell thing, I can't help you there. My advise would be to call their techline, they are pretty knowledgeable. Worth the long distance call. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, zdanko. I was begining to think nobody would answer any of my questions. This was my second time asking for help. I went ahead and put the tranny back together without the little filters. I saw a couple places the small one would fit, but I wasn't sure about it so I left it out . The larger one still has me baffled. I kept the hot line # for B&M and might give them a call just to see what they can come up with. After I got a new tranny filter and fluid for this kit, I noticed that B&M recomends to use their ATF ( of coarse )or type F. I thought type F was for Fords. I purchased Valvoline Dura-Blend ATF - Dextron/ Mercon type. Do you have any thoughts on this?

I used the type F fluid. I have not experienced any problems with it yet. I agree with you, I figured the B and M fluid is probably equivelent to the Type F but for 2 dollars more a quart. In my case, the tranny had a few miles on it so I took a chance since B and M made the recommendation. Good luck.

The larger filter that you are referring as about shotgun shell size, is a filter for the transmission cooler. It goes in a hole near the front of the transmission, the opened end towards the transmission case. The smaller filter is in the rear of the transmission, and it's an auxillary filter for the governor. It goes in with the open end toward the valve body. There are two holes of about the same size, one being to the govenor, the other from the govenor. The filter needs to be in the hole "to the govenor." Although they aren't absolutely necessary, I wouldn't run without either one of them.

Thanks Old Longboarder,I guess I'll take the pan back down and see if I can find the holes you are talking about. Do you know which of the small holes is the one into the governor?
